Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

Goddess of Love
Roxy Music Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Only a pair of diamond earrings that catch the light
Platinum blonde, is it true that you have more fun
Siberia, now I'm sad and all alone
Goddess of love
I can't go on without you, oh I want you
Goddess of love
Marilyn says all the best things in life are free
Speaking of friends, will you spend a little time with me?
Walking alone down the cold wet boulevard
Siberia, is the beating of your heart
Goddess of love
You make it hard to work out, when you want out
Goddess of love
You twist and tear my heart out, when you walk out
Never a day goes by
When I don't cry
Maybe I'll find a way, living from day to day
Look what you done tonight, Niagara Falls tonight
Goddess of love
I can't go on without you, oh I want you
Goddess of love
Nobody cares like I do, what can I do?
Never a day goes by
When I don't cry
In "Goddess of Love," Roxy Music explores themes of loneliness, desire, and unrequited love. The song features a man who is in love with the "Goddess of Love," a seemingly unattainable woman who he cannot live without. The song begins with Marilyn, a friend of the singer, stating that she has nothing to wear for the night except for a pair of diamond earrings that catch the light. This is juxtaposed against the singer's feeling of sadness and loneliness, as he longs for the love and attention of the Goddess of Love.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses his need for the Goddess of Love, acknowledging that nobody cares for her as much as he does. He is willing to spend time with her and walk down the cold wet boulevard, even though she may not reciprocate his feelings. He is torn apart by her when she decides to leave him, and he finds it hard to focus on anything else. The song ends with the singer acknowledging that he may never be able to live without her, and he cries every day because of it.
The lyrics in "Goddess of Love" are heartfelt and raw, showcasing the pain of unfulfilled love. The vulnerability of the singer's emotions is conveyed through the use of poetic and evocative language. The clever juxtaposition of Marilyn's lighthearted talk about diamond earrings against the singer's deep emotions highlights the contrast between materialistic desires and the desire for human connection.

I saw Bryan's two shows here in Rio. The first was from the Mamouna Tour in 1995 and the second was from the Frantic Tour in 2003. Both happened at the Metropolitan and I had the opportunity to speak quickly with Mick Green (RIP) and Julia Thorton at second show in 2003.
