Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

And the devil in your eye
Who is that woman with the crooked smile?
You got to go with what you feel
A little loving is a dangerous thing
Black is the ocean a burning sky
It's mountain high river deep the right stuff
Got your pearls on a string
And your skin's so bare
Over your shoulder there's a world out there
You got the nerve you gonna win
Boy you're playing with a dangerous thing
So it goes without saying
She's the queen of the Nile
Lion woman with the crooked smile
You got the nerve who's gonna win?
Boy you're playing with a dangerous thing
Send me the woman on a bended knee
Emerald eyes in desert heat
She's mountain high river deep the right stuff
Send me the woman to fight for me nature's wild hard to beat
She's mountain high river deep the right stuff
The song "Right Stuff" by Roxy Music is a rocking tale of passion, gambling and danger. The lyrics speak to an audacious man who is sitting at a table with his money placed there in a game of chance. His eyes are focused, as if he's fixated on winning something more than just his money back. The song asks, "who is that woman with the crooked smile?" It seems as though this woman is the source of the man's motivation, the fuel that is propelling him forward. But just like the high stakes, the woman is a dangerous thing.
The lyrics caution us that a little bit of love can be dangerous. The ocean in this song is black, and the sky is burning, which signifies a kind of turbulence and instability that accompanies the wild nature of love. However, despite the dangerous nature of this passion, the man is still drawn to the woman. Her nature is wild and hard to beat, she has the "right stuff" that he is looking for. The song implies that the woman is powerful, like a lioness, and the man is playing with fire, as he endeavors to win her affections over other suitors.
In summary, the lyrics of the song "Right Stuff" speak to a universal theme of desire and danger in love. The man in the song is gambling with his heart as well as his money, and the woman he desires is a force to be reckoned with. The intense imagery in the song, the burning sky and black ocean, reflect the high stakes of the situation. Ultimately, the song reminds us that love can be a dangerous game, but sometimes we can't help but play.
