Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

The wind is cold
The night is young
Before it's old and grey
We will know
The thrill of it all
The time has come
It's now or never
Don't hesitate or stall
When I call
Don't spoil
The thrill of it all
And before you go to sleep at night
Preying shadows, do they ask you why?
And in the morning through the afternoon
Do you wonder where you're going to?
Every word I use
Each crumpled page
Strange ideas
Mature with age
Like leaves
When autumn falls
Turn gold
Then they hit the ground
Every time I hear
The latest sound
It's pure whiskey
Reeling round and around
My brain
Oh and all oh that jive
It's driving me wild
The dizzy spin I'm in
Everywhere I look
I see your face
I hear your name
All over the place
Hey girl
Though you're gone
Still I recall
The thrill of it all
You might as well know what is right for you
And make the most of what you like to do
For all the pleasure that's surrounding you
Should compensate for all you're going through
So if you're feeling fraught
With mental strain
Too much thinking's got you down again
Well let your senses skip
Stay hip
Keep cool
To the thrill of it all
When you try too much
You lose control
Pressure rises
And so I'm told
Something's got to give
High life ecstasy
You might as well live
I can't see
I can't speak
I couldn't take more than another week
Without you, oh no
So I will drink my fill
Till the thrill is you
Oh the thrill of it all
Oh the thrill of it all
No I won't forget
The thrill of it all
No no no no no no no
The verses of Roxy Music's song "The Thrill Of It All" speak to living in the moment and experiencing life to the fullest before it's too late. The singer urges the listener to seize the moment and not to let fear or hesitation rob them of the excitement and passion of life. The lyrics also address the themes of memory and addiction. The singer seems to be grappling with a sense of loss and longing for a person or time gone by, and is using sensory experiences like hearing music and drinking alcohol to relive the thrill they once shared. Ultimately, the song is a call to live boldly and enjoy life, even in the face of uncertainty and heartache.
The chorus "The thrill of it all" is repeated throughout the song and is intended to be a powerful and resonant phrase that captures the essence of the song's message. It's a reminder to the listener that even when things feel uncertain or tumultuous, there's always a thrill to be found in life.
