(Sha-la-la, dooby wah, dum-dum-dum, yeh-yeh, um)
(Sha-la-la, dooby wah, dum-dum-dum, yeh-yeh)

Oh blue angel, don't you cry just because he said goodbye
Oh, ah-ah-ah, no don't cry

Oh, blue angel, have no fear brush away lonely teardrops
Hey hey, whoa-whoa, oh (yeah-yeah, dum, wah-wah-wah-wah)

Well, love's precious flame can just burn in vain
But you're not to blame
You thought love was a game, is it?

Oh, such a shame but don't you cry, don't sigh
I'll tell you why, I'll never say goodbye
Blue angel (sha-la-la, dooby wah, dum-dum-dum)
(Yeh-yeh, um, wah-wah-wah-wah)

We'll have loving so fine, magic moments divine
If you'll just say you're mine
I'll love you till the end of time

Don't you worry your pretty head
I'll never let you down
I'll always be around

Blue angel (sha-la-la, dooby wah, dum-dum-dum, yeh-yeh, um)
Blue angel (sha-la-la)

Overall Meaning

The song Blue Angel by Roy Orbison tells the story of a girl who is heartbroken after her lover said goodbye to her. The singer reassures the girl that everything will be alright and that he will always be around to support her. He tells her not to cry and to brush away her lonely tears. The chorus of the song repeatedly mentions the blue angel, a symbol for the girl’s sadness and despair.

The theme of the song is love lost, and the pain and heartbreak that come with it. Orbison sings about the precious flame of love that can burn in vain, and how it’s not the girl’s fault that things didn’t work out. He encourages her not to give up on love and to take a chance on him. The lyrics suggest that the singer is offering to be the girl’s new love interest and that they can have “loving so fine, magic moments divine” if she agrees to be with him.

Overall, Blue Angel is a comforting and reassuring song about the power of love and the importance of moving on from heartbreak. Despite its melancholic tone, the song offers a message of hope and resilience.

I had the magical experience of seeing Roy perform live, and can assure everyone that he sounded exactly as he did on records. No gimmicks, just a voice from heaven. He had the crowd eating out of his hands and took 27 curtain calls.

Imagine the hundreds of millions of mind, spirit, souls this incredible man's career has touched? Then imagine when passing he felt those feelings of everyone of them at the same time? Gone but possibly never forgotten if passed down lovingly? Thanks! Namaste Silly Smiler unilliam

I would have paid anything to see Roy Orbison preforming, he's the only singer that brings tears to my eyes ..

@Sergey_Naumov

For me, it's Orbison's favorite song, I heard it for the first time a long time ago and was very amazed at that time... I especially like this style, the spirit of harmony of chords and arrangement. Transitions to parallel minor in the first verse, vocal group, sonorous guitars, piano and theremin. The velvet style of music of those years, the early 60s, the Nashville style. I haven't heard anything more perfect yet. Greetings from Russia everybody!)
