The band released their album In The House Of Attics in 2007 on Hopeless Records, and before that their EP Best Friends Our Worst Enemies in 2004 on Genco Records. Their EP was re-released on Hopeless Records in 2006.
The eternal rock and roll struggle is nothing new to Royden. After numerous lineup changes during their formation in 2005, Royden now stands proudly with a powerful, skilled lineup of musicians who wield instruments as sonic weaponry. They are set apart not only by their skill, but mainly by their willingness to experiment openly with the seemingly tired rock/pop genre. Royden couples jagged guitar lines with odd time signatures, post-punk basslines, and operatic, classic-rock inspired vocals. And then there’s the lyrics- dirges about celestial bodies intertwined in a dramatic romance, dance music with a backdrop of an infirmary, fast-paced power-pop about robot attacks, and a heaping portion of crushing rock and roll serving to illustrate the apocalyptic subject matter.

Carabella
Royden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We cry of the news as the ship goes down.
On Earth we weep for his end.
The truth and the reason make no difference.
On earth, we sense their confusion.
We sense their last panic; we did not know his name.
On earth the bright small world.
While charting the heavens, will never make it out alive.
Their tears, they burst out destroy her.
As they destroy her.
Accidents are bending the sounds.
The disheartened crunch of explosions
And burning emotions carrying on forever.
Through these canyons that never die
The lyrics of Royden's song Carabella seem to depict a catastrophic event that happened on Earth. The song starts by describing it as a "bright small world" but soon transitions to a ship going down and people crying about it. They weep for the end of someone whose name they did not know. There is confusion and panic on Earth as if something terrible has happened. The truth and the reason do not seem to make any difference to the people on Earth. Royden then talks about those who were charting the heavens, and although they died, their tears destroy the world as they destroy her. Accidents are bending the sounds, and there are disheartened crunches of explosions and burning emotions that carry on forever. Through these canyons that never die, it seems that there is no end to the sorrow that people are feeling.
Royden's Carabella is a song that draws you in as it explores the idea of losing everything. The lyrics are powerful and impactful, and it seems like they are trying to convey a message about the fragility of life. The song reflects on the idea that no one knows what the future holds, and even though we strive to create a better world, there is always a chance that something catastrophic could happen. Carabella highlights the importance of cherishing every moment and appreciating those around us before they are gone.
