The band released their album In The House Of Attics in 2007 on Hopeless Records, and before that their EP Best Friends Our Worst Enemies in 2004 on Genco Records. Their EP was re-released on Hopeless Records in 2006.
The eternal rock and roll struggle is nothing new to Royden. After numerous lineup changes during their formation in 2005, Royden now stands proudly with a powerful, skilled lineup of musicians who wield instruments as sonic weaponry. They are set apart not only by their skill, but mainly by their willingness to experiment openly with the seemingly tired rock/pop genre. Royden couples jagged guitar lines with odd time signatures, post-punk basslines, and operatic, classic-rock inspired vocals. And then there’s the lyrics- dirges about celestial bodies intertwined in a dramatic romance, dance music with a backdrop of an infirmary, fast-paced power-pop about robot attacks, and a heaping portion of crushing rock and roll serving to illustrate the apocalyptic subject matter.

Murder Of An Albatross
Royden Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The darkness bleeding moonlight,
Dripping over her silhouette.
She enters,
Walks slowly,
The mark of everyone,
Slips off her dress.(and no one ever sees)
This winter's never been half as cold as you,
So tonight I'll try
As your stare passes over me, and cuts me to my spine.
You're only showing me half the way tonight and now it's time to say goodbye.
No warnings,
Left her eyes,
Are filled with deep red tears.
Hard swallowed secret lipstick smears.
[Chorus]
She has her hair pulled back
She's such a beautiful girl,
With stretchmarks above her eyelids.
(A lovely look that kills)
Her blood in secret spills out on the cabin floor.
(They scream for more)
Motives are undecided.
This unsuspecting victim takes the floor
As they scream for more, more more more
Sing to us
She takes a bow as the curtains close.
[Chorus]
In Royden's song "Murder Of An Albatross," the lyrics paint a dark image of a woman entering a room in the moonlight. She slowly removes her dress, revealing her vulnerability, as she is marked by everyone. The chorus speaks to the bitter coldness of the winter, which pales in comparison to the coldness of the woman's stare. As she leaves, the singer must say goodbye to his lover, who keeps her secrets and pain hidden behind a façade of beauty. The sense of betrayal is palpable in the lyrics, as we see this woman's blood spilled on the floor unceremoniously. The song ends with the woman taking her final bow as the curtains close, perhaps a dark metaphor for the end of her life.
