SLEEP WAKER Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Consumed by panic, the static recites hymns in synchronising patterns
As you disassociate, your eyes roll back in your head
To numb was never good enough
(Never good enough)
Now you ask me to explain myself

What it costs to find
Staring at the lines in my hands
(In my hands)
Blood black nothingness begins to spin
Would you believe a single word I say?

Systems of synchrony
A system of cells interlinked

Did they teach you how to feel
How long have you longed for a heart
Synthetic memories
How do you really know that you're alive

In your eyes a reflection
An image blurred
(It's slowly sinking)
A cure for the swelling doubt
The looming sense of self
When you sleep, do you truly dream?

Blood black nothingness begins to spin

I struggle to believe myself
Desperate for an answer

Why I'm forced to reside in this hollow shell
In your eyes a reflection
The image blurred
Slowly sink in

Disassociate

Overall Meaning

The song "Skin" by SLEEP WALKER portrays the emotions of feeling disconnected and detached from oneself. The lyrics open with a vivid description of panic and the way it consumes one's senses. The static within the body recites hymns in synchronizing patterns, making it hard to distinguish reality. The second line, "As you disassociate, your eyes roll back in your head," is an indication of how an individual starts to pull away from the present reality and drifts away. The third line, "To numb was never good enough, now you ask me to explain myself," highlights the futility of trying to distract oneself from their problems by numbing themselves with addictive substances.

The chorus focuses on the idea of searching for an answer and trying to find meaning in life. The lines, "What it costs to find, staring at the lines in my hands, blood black nothingness begins to spin, Would you believe a single word I say?" emphasize the weight of this search and how it can be challenging to find answers that satisfy the mind. There is a sense of futility and confusion portrayed in these lines.

The next verse talks about how society and our surroundings play a significant part in how we feel or experience life. It asks if people are taught to feel, and how long they have longed for a heart. It also touches on how synthetic memories can affect our sense of self and make us question our reality. The bridge of the song "Skin" summarizes the previous themes; the lyrics "In your eyes a reflection, an image blurred, a cure of the swelling doubt, the looming sense of self" speak to the disconnect between who we portray to the world and who we genuinely are. The lyric "When you sleep, do you truly dream?" highlights a final need for resolution and understanding.

I love how y'all stayed true to your sound yet incorporated the clean(ish) vocals. The ambience is perfect. 10/10 fellas. Looking forward to seeing y'all live again once this shit show is over.

@MarkLePage

Gregory Sinclair Yeah, you nailed my exact thoughts. Always loved the really heavy vibes this band brought to the table, but I REALLY enjoyed the addition of ambience and the singing parts really complimented the song so well. I hope there’s A LOT more like this on the album/EP we get next.

Speaking of that, where’s the album announcement, guys? Two singles down, one being nearly a year ago now!

@jesseroberts5728

If the writing stays in the same capacity as this then you guys are gonna be huge. I said it with ABR, ERRA, Invent Animate, and I'm calling it right here. This is gonna be the blow up you guys deserve.
