Crown Of Thorns
Saga Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Truth is born, mystified
'Til the day it hunts you down
Crown of thorns, dignified
Fills my head without a sound

One endless crime of anxiety
Am I last in line?
The ocean of time has forsaken me
Tell me, why?

Iron tongues, suckled life
While I'm helpless bruised and torn
Broken laws, poisoned minds
Feel my blood is running cold

One endless crime of anxiety
Am I last in line?
The ocean of time has forsaken me
Tell me, why?

The scattered profanity honored and written in stone
Conducted by vanity leading us more than you know

Wreck of lies, toxic codes
As I start to lose control
Cracks my skin, indisposed
Now I'm ready to explode

One endless crime of anxiety
Am I last in line?
The ocean of time has forsaken me
Tell me, why
Tell me, why

The scattered profanity honored and written in stone
Conducted by vanity leading us more than you know

The scattered profanity honored and written in stone
Conducted by vanity leading us more than you know

One endless crime of anxiety
Am I last in line?
The ocean of time has forsaken me
Tell me, why?

One endless crime of anxiety
Am I last in line?
The ocean of time has forsaken me
Tell me, why?

Truth is born, mystified
'Til the day it hunts you down
Crown of thorns, dignified
Fills my head without a sound

The scattered profanity honored and written in stone
Conducted by vanity leading us more than you know

The scattered profanity honored and written in stone
Conducted by vanity leading us more than you know

Overall Meaning

The song "Crown of Thorns" by Saga is a reflection of the artist's struggle with anxiety and the feeling of being forsaken by time. The lyrics describe the weight of the crown of thorns on the artist's head, representing the burden of their thoughts and emotions. The use of "truth" being mystified and hunting the artist down suggest that their anxiety is deeply rooted in their perception of reality. The repetition of "one endless crime of anxiety, am I last in line?" portrays the artist's feeling of being alone in their suffering. They question why time has forsaken them and made them feel this way.

The verse "The scattered profanity honored and written in stone, conducted by vanity leading us more than you know" suggests that the artist is aware of the superficiality of society and the impact it has on individuals. The phrase "scattered profanity" implies that society's values and beliefs are scattered and not necessarily logical or reasonable. The artist seems to be saying that society is following these beliefs blindly, and they are leading society astray.

The chorus repeats the themes of anxiety and being forsaken by time, highlighting the desperation of the artist's situation. The song ends with the repetition of the line "conducted by vanity leading us more than you know," suggesting that society's superficial values and beliefs will continue to negatively impact individuals.

The whole CD is outstanding! It is so well done and well mastered. A great listen! I've been following Saga since the late 70's, and I am imprinted on their style. However, this departure from Michael Sadler works! This CD is worth the purchase!

Best SAGA in years...not a bad tune on here...heard Mike Sadler is back now...it's a damn shame that these don't play in America....I would pay big bucks to see these guy at least once.....

It really is unfortunate that groups like Saga never gained mainstream appeal. Especially so for the real-deal prog rock and prog metal fans who now have to shell out big bucks for long out or print records and CDs from these bands.
