The original line-up consisted of Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), Armando Acosta (drums) and Scott Reagers (vocals). They recorded their first two albums before Scott Weinrich replaced Reagers in 1986. The line-up of Chandler, Adams, Acosta and Weinrich is the longest-lasting. The third album Born Too Late (1986) is generally acknowledged as their best release.[3]
After breaking up in 1996 and briefly reforming in 2003, Saint Vitus reunited again in 2008 with the band's "classic" line-up, featuring Weinrich, Chandler, Adams and Acosta, and embarked on a successful tour. However, after 30 years in the band, Acosta left Saint Vitus in 2009 due to worsening health, and was replaced by Henry Vasquez. By 2016, both Weinrich and Adams had left Saint Vitus and were replaced by Reagers and Patrick Bruders respectively, leaving Chandler as the only constant member of the band and reuniting two-fourths of the original lineup.
Born Too Late
Saint Vitus Lyrics

People laugh and point at me
They talk about my length of hair
And the out of date clothes I wear
They say I look like the living dead
They say I can't have much in my head
They say my songs are much too slow
I know I don't belong
And there's nothing I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you
In my life things never change
To everybody I seem strange
But in my world now something's died
So I just stare with these insane eyes
I know I don't belong
And there's nothing that I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you
In Saint Vitus's song Born Too Late, the lyrics describe the feelings of an outcast who is constantly ridiculed for their appearance and music style. The singer is mocked for their long hair and outdated clothes, which leads people to assume that they are unintelligent and have nothing meaningful to say. However, the singer is aware of their own knowledge and worth, and they feel a sense of detachment from the world around them. They express a deep sense of melancholy and isolation, as they know they "don't belong" and can never conform to societal expectations.
The lyrics also contain a sense of frustration at the lack of change in the singer's life. They feel trapped in their own world and cannot escape the judgment of others. The final lines of the song express a sense of resignation, as the singer accepts that they will never be able to fit in with society and will always be an outsider.
Overall, the lyrics of Born Too Late express the experiences of someone who is misunderstood and alienated by society. The singer's struggle to find acceptance and belonging is a relatable theme that speaks to anyone who has felt like an outsider.

I remember being at a party in highschool, cracking beers and popped this album in the cassette player. The room cleared out immediately. Good times.

@sumitrana4813
Jobs are still shitty but every once in a while, like today for example. I get high as a kite and listen to this.

Speed was in demand back then. Faster punk. Faster metal. But Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Witchfinder General and Pagan Altar kept the slow torch burning.
@warshipsatin8764
i always admired bands like saint vitus and the melvins who played slow as fuck even live. its so easy to play faster in front of a crowd out of nervousness or just to get some energy going - but they'd play slower than the album
there's footage on youtube of the melvins playing hag me at a house party and half the crowd seems unsure how to react to such a crushingly slow and heavy song

Ortodox Doom Metal is NWOTHM, is not punk.
