The original line-up consisted of Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass), Armando Acosta (drums) and Scott Reagers (vocals). They recorded their first two albums before Scott Weinrich replaced Reagers in 1986. The line-up of Chandler, Adams, Acosta and Weinrich is the longest-lasting. The third album Born Too Late (1986) is generally acknowledged as their best release.[3]
After breaking up in 1996 and briefly reforming in 2003, Saint Vitus reunited again in 2008 with the band's "classic" line-up, featuring Weinrich, Chandler, Adams and Acosta, and embarked on a successful tour. However, after 30 years in the band, Acosta left Saint Vitus in 2009 due to worsening health, and was replaced by Henry Vasquez. By 2016, both Weinrich and Adams had left Saint Vitus and were replaced by Reagers and Patrick Bruders respectively, leaving Chandler as the only constant member of the band and reuniting two-fourths of the original lineup.
Thirsty And Miserable
Saint Vitus Lyrics

You drop to the floor
You drink 'til you can't
See any more
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
My brother wants a ride
To the liquor store
You pity him for what
He wants it for
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
It 's 1:30 and we're
Getting nervous
Because the store closes at two
And there's not enough
To last us all, oh fuck!
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
Thirsty and miserable
Always wanting more
The lyrics of Saint Vitus's Thirsty and Miserable describe the pitfalls of addiction and the never-ending cycle of craving more. The song portrays the desperate nature of those experiencing addiction, as they will do whatever it takes to satisfy their cravings. The first verse describes a person who is so consumed by their addiction that they are barely standing, having drank until they can't see anymore. Still, they persist in wanting more, no matter how miserable it makes them. In the second verse, the singer's brother wants a ride to the liquor store, and while they may feel pity for him, they understand the all-consuming nature of addiction.
The final verse adds a sense of urgency to the situation, with the singers aware that the liquor store will close soon and they may not have enough to satisfy their thirst. The repetition of "thirsty and miserable, always wanting more" emphasizes the circular nature of addiction, as the cravings never fully go away. The song's title itself highlights the emptiness of addiction, as it provides neither satisfaction nor fulfillment. Ultimately, Thirsty and Miserable communicates the desperation and destructive nature of addiction, and the need for help and seeking a path towards recovery.

Both versions have their high points. If I'm feeling paranoid, I'll put on Black Flag's version. If I want to rock out, Saint Vitus is my band.
