Born & raised in the Bay Area, the 24-year-old artist grew up on a healthy diet of ‘90s and ‘00s R&B/pop including Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Justin Timberlake, among others.
Samaria’s early interest in music caught the attention of her late grandmother who offered incentives for good grades like piano lessons & Nickelodeon auditions to encourage her granddaughter to pursue a career in the performing arts field.
When her grandmother passed, the then 14-year-old spiraled into depression and stopped showing up to school, resulting in her almost flunking her freshman year. Eventually she took the encouragement to heart by beginning to write music that evolved into posting originals and a popular Drake remix on her SoundCloud by the time she was a high school junior. Buzz from her tracks led to a working relationship with a prominent West Coast producer with whom she linked up with to produce her debut EP “The Story of Right Now”.
Incorporating clever word-play songwriting..the last couple of years have seen Samaria's release standout singles like “Foolish,” an atmospheric, meditative wave of self-reflection, and the lovesick, early ‘00s-influenced “Shy Girl,” an anthem for catching your crush’s attention when you’re a natural introvert.
The Intro
Samaria Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nobody really knows where they're going
Well lemme show you
Been a minute since we caught up
Its my fault we don't keep in touch, yea
I been keeping all this inside, My pride
Won't let me tell you
(Huh)
But you wanna know whats been going on with me
To be honest
Ive been spending way too long in the mirror
Ive been scared of being alone for a minute
Ive been praying extra hard, Ive been sinnin'
And I don't really wanna waste your time
If I said Im Okay I'd be lying
(Huh)
(Heavy Breath, Pages Turn)
The lyrics to Samaria's song The Intro reflects the struggles of life, and the feeling of lost direction. The opening lines "Everybody out here falling in deep and shit, Nobody really knows where they're going" immediately sets the tone for the song, with Samaria highlighting the struggles in life that everyone can relate to. However, she says "let me show you", which implies that she has something to offer, something to guide people in the right direction.
The song continues with Samaria addressing a friend who she admits she has not been in touch with lately. She confesses that she has been keeping things to herself and feeling prideful, not allowing herself to share her struggles. Samaria explains that she hasn't slept in months since that friend left her. As the verse continues, she finally reveals what has been going on in her life, including feeling lonely, scared, and praying extra hard while also sinning.
Overall, The Intro is a powerful song that is deep and introspective. It highlights the challenges of life, and how sometimes we just need someone to talk to or guide us in the right direction.
