Everything About You
Sanctus Real Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Be my light in this darkened room
I'm on my face and I'm calling You
I can't fathom all You've done for me
Every time it finds me on my knees
Like sunlight in the winter cold

[Chorus]
Everything about You,
It takes my breath away
Hallelujah
I tried this once without You
And it was my great mistake
Hallelujah

Questions fade when You invade
You chase all of my fears away
With Your love in my atmosphere
All confusion disappears
And nothing but Your truth remains

[Chorus]

Questions fade, You remain
You are color on a page of white,
Bright like eyes beneath black lights
Like a glowing city on the plains,
You call my name

[Chorus]

Hallelujah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sanctus Real's song "Everything About You" speak of the singer's dependence on God in the face of darkness and confusion. The opening lines, "Be my light in this darkened room/I'm on my face and I'm calling You," express a plea for divine intervention in a bleak situation. The singer acknowledges that they cannot comprehend the extent of God's mercy ("I can't fathom all You've done for me"), but that their faith is strengthened with each prayer ("Every time it finds me on my knees/Like sunlight in the winter cold").

As the chorus repeats, the song emphasizes the way that God's presence fills the singer with awe ("Everything about You/takes my breath away/Hallelujah"). The verses continue to describe the transformation that comes with faith: "Questions fade when You invade/You chase all of my fears away/With Your love in my atmosphere/All confusion disappears/And nothing but Your truth remains." Through this process, the singer learns to trust in God's guidance, symbolized by the image of colors appearing on white ("You are color on a page of white, Bright like eyes beneath black lights/Like a glowing city on the plains/You call my name"). The song concludes with the repeated refrain of "Hallelujah," a joyful exclamation of praise for God's presence.

I'm not a failure
You are
I hate that I loved you
When nothing was good in you
To love
I hate that I kissed you so softly
With my all
Hate that I shared my heart as if you could love
Could love me as I loved
From the moment I heard your voice
Not only out loud
But spiritual
I hate you so much now
It hurts to recollect
The passion I gave to you
To give a feeling that you were #1
#1 not only to me
But in the struggle lied in this world
Was your cheer captain
Helped you rise so much
Looking at me now
On the outside I'm you
Ugly as can be
Your inside is the reflection that I see
This is you on my outside
But I'm still throbbing beautiful soul
Mine is well
Exciting sprits
Entertaining angels instead
You are now money wealthy
But love you will never have again
The promise for your heart is trillions pieces
It shall break from outside to inside
You will realize when it's too late
That you should choose me
Not the fake you lust for past
Chasing after what doesn't really count
The story of your life
Still unsatisfied aren't you now
Dream of our moments
Let them haunt you
Till you wake eye teared bowed
Let depression seep in from the wrong you did us all
Taking for granted our innocent love
Unconditional love we have
You were proud
But looking back and looking forward what do you have now
Nothing really worth nothing
In the end you lost you dreams
But only if you had stayed with me
Happily after you would have seen
But that's what you deserve tears now
Swollen eyes
Cry like a wounded child
Boone to love you again
But I will go on stronger
And save what once I held yours
My body soul and heart
For someone else most deserving
And your visions will see us glad
See us bliss
Cry baby
So long I'm through desiring you
Through waiting for you
I hate you more each day
And am teaching others the same
So go insane
Commit suicide
The world will be a better place
Without you

15 years later and this song is still being played on my playlist. Brings back middle school and high school memories as well.

Dude this song is so solid. The instrumentation blows me away every time. From the guitar delay and reverb effects, to the bass lines and guitar leads right before the chorus at the end of the verse. Every subtle note so harmonious. Top it off with some great vocals non generic lyrics and this is timeless piece. A beautiful and true expression of how art should be.
