Within
Sarah Geronimo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What's running through the mind
When love begins to die
It yields the tears we cry
Behind a smile
Could be a struggling lie
And though we try so hard
*But why do we allow
Somebody to step in?
Though they can't read
Between the lines
When we are hurting
**I don't want to cry aloud
I want him to be the one to know
That I'm in pain and
He's the one to blame
I want him to figure out
It's all about discerning what is real
What I trully feel
To see the meaning
Knowing what's within
He holds my hand
But never understands
Embracing me is coldness
He's too numb to feel
If I convey
The things I have to say
I thinks I'll only make a fool
Of myself
Repeat * & **
When he starts to see
These tears inside of me
Then I'll believe
That he perceives
Just what's within
What's within
In Sarah Geronimo's song Within, she expresses the pain of falling out of love and trying to communicate that pain to her partner. She begins the song by stating that the eyes can't hide what's running through the mind, indicating that her partner should be able to see the hurt in her eyes. However, she also recognizes that love can blind us, making it difficult to see what's really going on beneath the surface. She sings about how sometimes we try so hard to hide our pain that we end up faking it, even if we don't want to.
The chorus of the song speaks to the heart of Geronimo's frustration, as she declares that she doesn't want to cry aloud or make a scene, but she does want her partner to understand how much he has hurt her. She emphasizes that he holds her hand but never understands her, indicating a lack of emotional connection between them. She concludes by saying that if he can see the tears inside of her, then she'll believe that he can truly perceive what's within her.
