After initially signing a record deal at 18, Reeves toured heavily for years before coming off the road for an indefinite hiatus to focus on songwriting—her first love. Thinking her career as a recording artist was over, Reeves poured herself into writing songs for others, including Jesus Culture, Kari Jobe and Natalie Grant. Her songs received film and TV placement, and her vocals found their way onto select recordings, including a feature on Kirk Franklin’s BET Awards-nominated track, “My World Needs You,” also featuring Tasha Cobbs and Tamela Mann. In addition, she gradually cultivated a devoted following of more than 100,000 fans on YouTube who discovered her voice through a series of cover songs, garnering her nearly 20 million global views.
Heart First

It's bound to tear me up
Can't trust the feels 'cause they're constantly changing
But I trust 'em way too much
Losing my mind, not logical
But crazy can feel incredible
I'm closing my eyes and letting myself go
I'm jumping in with my heart first, heart first
99 times out of ten
I'm all inside of my head
I'm gonna probably get hurt, get hurt
I might be a little bit scared
For once in my life, I don't care
I'm jumping, I'm jumping
Into these walls like a castle in London
Stand back and watch 'em fall
Under my breath whispering, "Here goes nothing"
Broken and beautiful
Losing my mind, not logical
But crazy can feel incredible
I'm closing my eyes and letting myself go
I'm jumping in with my heart first, heart first
99 times out of ten
I'm all inside of my head
I'm gonna probably get hurt, get hurt
I might be a little bit scared
For once in my life, I don't care
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
(Heart first)

I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)
Closing my eyes, I'm closing my eyes
And letting go
I'm jumping in with my heart first, heart first
99 times out of ten
I'm all inside of my head
I'm gonna probably get hurt, get hurt
I might be a little bit scared
For once in my life, I don't care
I'm jumping, I'm jumping (heart first)

"Heart First" is a song about taking a leap of faith and following our hearts, even if our minds tell us otherwise. The lyrics depict the struggle between our head and heart, as they often have differing opinions on how we should act and feel. The singer acknowledges that this internal conflict could cause her to be hurt, but she's willing to take the risk and jump in with her heart first.
The chorus clearly illustrates the central theme of the song as the artist sings about taking a leap of faith towards an uncertain and scary future, something that holds true for many people in real-life. The music video of this song starts with Sarah Reeves holding a heart-shaped balloon, which she releases as she falls backward into the water. The balloon signifies freedom from her fears and signifies her willingness to take a risk.
The bridge in the song talks about breaking down the walls and the self-doubt and allowing our brokenness to shine through. This is essential because taking a leap of faith requires a certain level of vulnerability on our part.
Overall, "Heart First" is an empowering song with an uplifting message that encourages people to trust their inner voice and take a courageous step towards a better future.
