βA monochrome of sound and art that fails the criteria of mediocrity.β
Over the years, this phrase has defined the music of Saydie, a five piece rock band formed in April 2003. Indeed, the band is best known for being pioneers in female fronted heavy music in the Philippines, with their debut self-titled album being one of the first to showcase a unique take on the genre in the local music scene of their home country. Over time, Saydieβs raw, aggressive and authentic approach to their music has earned them a huge and dedicated following.
In the 2010s, Saydie has managed to stand the test of time and continuously evolve its sound. This evolution is apparent with the bandβs upcoming second album βBelitaβ from which the singles βAustineβ, βHeatherβs Prayerβ and βOnyxβ have been released β the first two singles gathering over 100,000 views on YouTube combined and the latter single topping the Rakista Radio charts for three consecutive weeks. Now a stronger band than ever, Saydie continues to aspire to greater heights of musical expression and success, with mediocrity being ever absent from the bandβs vocabulary.
Saydie is Kat Taylor, Josh Madrid, Kurt Corpus, Monx Arguelles and Karl Kliatchko.

Saydie Lyrics

What the fuck you looking at?
Yeah, yo, for all the our street niggas
All my project niggas, all the niggas out on the corners
And the fucking everyday struggle
Come on, yeah, what? Yeah
Tired of these niggas man
Yeah, what? Yeah, survive for these niggas
Onyx to the death mutherfuckers
Onyx is gritty, grimey, the gutter
Projects, techs, nines, black Escalades
Low down, shiftee, mad at the world, straight gully
Villains, crooks, thieves, terrorists, killers
Drug dealers, Hennessey, ecstasy
Weed, Queens, Brooklyn
Robbin', stealin', stabbi
ng for the paper, cash rules everything
Onyx's song "Onyx" is a rap anthem to street life, particularly that of black men living in urban ghettos. The song speaks to the everyday struggle and challenges faced by those living in poverty-stricken areas, including drug addiction, violence, and desperation. The lyrics express a strong sense of camaraderie among the people living in these areas, many of whom are involved in illegal activities simply to survive.
The first verse sets the tone for the song with the lines "Yo, what's the problem? That's what I thought/ What the fuck you looking at?". The aggression in the lyrics is palpable, conveying a sense of defiance and hostility. Onyx emphasizes their loyalty to their fellow street dwellers, especially those they view as "project niggas" who share in their struggles. The song glorifies the life of the streets, with references to drug dealing, stealing, and robbing for money.

Been up on the yellow moon
Thats been throwing up on you
Mumbling mumbling multiple murderer
Over feeding his inner flaming queer
Feel the violent smoke
Linger, triggering, the violent smoke
Trigger the mumbling multiple murderer
