Although he took a stand against the corrupt authorities, it ultimately resulted in him losing his faith in the system.
Drank it down to last all day
He drank something (possibly alcohol) in order to cope with his daily struggles.
Break a jaw to try and make a million
The authorities have no problem resorting to violence in order to make more money and maintain their power.
