In 1996, Scheitan recorded one song, "Devastating heaven", for a demo. They sent this demo to the German record label Invasion Records. Invasion Records signed the band for two albums and late 1996 saw the release of the first album "Travelling in ancient times" consisting of eight tracks of black metal. The band members however, never considered Scheitan as a black metal band, more like a musical project whose style would change over time. Hence, the second album, "Berserk 2000", was a mixture of dark gothic rock and dark ambient music finishing off with three furious black metal tracks. After the release of their second album, Scheitan signed to Century Media and recorded " Nemesis". After the album release the band performed live at the 1999 edition of Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, before going into a 24-year hiatus.
Drummer Oscar Karlsson tragically died in March 2016.
In March 2023 vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Pierre Törnkvist resurrected Scheitan and released a new single, "Lost in time". Two more singles, "Fire at dawn" and the Billy Idol cover "White wedding" was released in the later months of 2023. During the year the band also signed with Greek label The Circle Music.

The lyrics to Scheitan's song Fury Flow signify a desire to embrace the darkness and evil that is inherent in all human beings. The singer declares that they will seek out death and ride on the dark paths, without any concern for those who may try to stop them. They vow to take their last ride, embracing the nefarious ways that the night brings upon them. The singer also talks about their own warpath that they would embark upon alone and kill anyone who stands in their way. They believe that they have no choice left but to go down the devil's cage, implying that they have given in to the darker side of their own self.
The singer in the song believes that treason is inevitable, and everyone fails at it, leading them to describe it as a sinful masquerade. The coming of the plague is also mentioned, indicating their readiness to bring chaos and destruction. The person the singer addresses would not be able to stop them from their path, their lips having once said maybe, which now does not matter. The lyricist highlights the choices that the singer has made and claims that it is a sin to do so.
