[[b]1] A pseudonym of dub musician Hopeton Brown (aka Overton Brown), from Kingston, Jamaica). Brown burst onto the reggae scene in the early '70s with a reckless mixing style that seemed to outdo even King Tubby's wildest extravaganzas. He began his career as an engineer at Tubby's in 1978. Shortly afterwards he became a Tubby protégé and, by 1980, had gained a reputation with a distinctive mixing style.
He became worldwide known after Rockstar Games used his album 'Scientist Rids the World of the Curse Of the Vampires' in 2001.

A.I.M includes guest appearances by Stavros Giannopolous of The Atlas Moth, Bruce Lamont of Yakuza and Jeff Lyman of Dead Sheriff.

Scientist worked for Channel One at the time of these dubs. Scientist, as one of the main engineers of the studio would have access to the multi-track tapes and free studio time to dub the tracks with the same equipment used to record. He would rig up custom equipment developed by himself and King Tubby such as the trademark squelching hi-pass filter, also employing the trademark Channel One spring reverbs and tape echoplex.

Scientist created these "dub versions" from the original recordings. It is not sampling. It is the original form of "remixing". In Jamaica in the 70's studios would employ session musicians to record the original version/rhythms and then would get different singers/toasters/musicians to sing/play over the top to create different "versions". These versions could then, in turn, be passed onto producers like King Tubby, Scientist, Prince Jammy etc to work their magic on.
