He is perhaps most known for his vocal performances for Yoko Kanno for her Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtracks. However, he is also known amongst Morrissey fans by being part of the former band Elva Snow which boasted both Matthew’s vocals and ex-Morrissey member Spencer Cobrin as drummer and composer.
His albums are Scott Matthew (album) (2007), Silent Nights EP (2008) and There Is An Ocean That Divides (2009).
Also to note: Matthew is sometimes credited as "Scotty Matthew", and is occasionally miscredited as having the last name Matthews, and as such is not to be confused with the British-born singer/songwriter Scott Matthews.
In The End

Yeah, we all feign a laugh
We all cry in the dark
Get cut off before we start
and as your first act begins
You realise they're all waiting
For a fall, for a flaw, for the end
and there's a past stained with tears
Could you talk to quiet my fears
Could you pull me aside
Just to acknowledge that I've tried
as your last breath begins
Contently take it in
Cause we all get it in
The end
and as your last breath begins
You find your demon's your best friend
And we all get it in
The end
The lyrics of Scott Matthew's "In The End" capture the essence of the humanness we all share, regardless of our differences. The opening line "We all bear the scars" speaks to the fact that we all have experienced hardship, pain, or difficulty in some way or another. Despite the struggles we face, we often suppress our emotions and choose to put on a brave face, as the lyrical phrase "we all feign a laugh" suggests. This may come at a cost, as we inevitably "all cry in the dark," suggesting that there may be some hidden pain that we may not share with others.
The second stanza emphasizes the reality of how we may be acutely aware of people waiting for us to fail, critiquing our every move as we pursue our life's mission. External pressures may result in us falling short, making mistakes and showing our flaws in the process. The repetition of "for a fall, for a flaw, for the end" emphasizes this point further.
The lines "and there's a past stained with tears / Could you talk to quiet my fears / Could you pull me aside / Just to acknowledge that I've tried" echoes the sentiment of the first stanza, highlighting our innate fears and insecurities as individuals. The singer is seeking validation, someone to listen to his fears and acknowledge his attempts to succeed. Moreover, they recognize that the past can shape our present and future, and the memories can be a burden we carry.
The final lyrics "Contently take it in / Cause we all get it in / The end" reveal how all life eventually comes to a close, and death is inevitable. As your last breath begins, you realize that the one who you've always thought as a demon is finally with you, and you realize the ultimate truth that we all will encounter this, no matter who we are or our experiences while living.
