He is perhaps most known for his vocal performances for Yoko Kanno for her Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtracks. However, he is also known amongst Morrissey fans by being part of the former band Elva Snow which boasted both Matthew’s vocals and ex-Morrissey member Spencer Cobrin as drummer and composer.
His albums are Scott Matthew (album) (2007), Silent Nights EP (2008) and There Is An Ocean That Divides (2009).
Also to note: Matthew is sometimes credited as "Scotty Matthew", and is occasionally miscredited as having the last name Matthews, and as such is not to be confused with the British-born singer/songwriter Scott Matthews.
Upside Down
Scott Matthew Lyrics

And live with the high hope
That somehow we still feel the same
Through this catastrophe
It's quietly telling me "welcome"
There's that word again
For I don't care if the world's upside down
I know my feet will stay far from the ground
If you'd just stick around
I know the shots you call gentle
'Cause I could fall and break
You'll hear what they say
I read between the lines
Cuts like a hate crime
And tell me today's not the day
For I don't care if the world's upside down
If you're lost or you're found
I know my feet will stay far from the ground
If you'd just stick around
You hit a high note
It comes like a cyclone
And tell me today's not the day
I don't care if the world's upside down
If you're lost or I'm found
I know my feet will stay far from the ground
If you'd just stick around
With me
In Scott Matthew's song Upside Down, the first verse mentions walking a tight rope and living with high hope that somehow "we" still feel the same. The second verse references "gentle shots" that could cause falling and breaking, with lines that cut like a hate crime, but also that "today's not the day". The chorus repeats the sentiment that in spite of a world turned upside down, and being lost or found, as long as they stick around, the singer's feet will stay far above the ground. The bridge references hitting a high note, coming like a cyclone, and ending with the plea to stick around.
The song is a reflection on the current state of the relationship, likely romantic, with the singer expressing his/her willingness to endure difficulties and remain grounded as long as the other person stays. The tight rope represents the fragility of the situation, while the gentle shots and hate crime lines refer to negative words or actions that might hurt the singer but won’t be fatal yet should be taken seriously. The chorus is both a statement of the singer’s commitment to the relationship and a call to action for the other person to stay.
