White Lightning
Scott Weiland Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The time right now is nigh
We rollin' like the tide
It's time for you and I to begin this hillbilly tale

Lookin' for your number
She said well, well, well
Can't you feel me, baby?
I'm a-standing alone all by myself

Ma and Pa mind it when
You move like a rebel who don't know whenever to back down
Or stand your ground

Lookin' for your number
She said well, well, well
Can't you feel me, baby?
I'm a-standing alone all by myself

Never seen a jalopy like this
Flyin' across the bridge
He keeps a silver lining in his pocket
But don't know what it is

Lookin' for your number
She said well, well, well
Can't you feel me, baby?
I'm a-standing alone all by myself

See you soon
Maybe tomorrow
Who knows the story?
Maybe tomorrow

Lookin' for your number
She said well, well, well

Can't you feel me, baby?
I'm a-standing alone all by myself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "White Lightning" by Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts seem to be about a journey or adventure, possibly with a love interest. The opening lines suggest that the time is right for something, and the singer and his companion are "rollin' like the tide" which implies that they are moving forward with purpose. The reference to a "hillbilly tale" suggests that this adventure will be a bit wild and unpredictable.

The next verse introduces some conflict - someone is looking for the singer's number while he/she is standing alone. The lines "Ma and Pa mind it when / You move like a rebel who don't know whenever to back down / Or stand your ground" suggest that the singer is someone who is not afraid to take risks or stand up for themselves, but this may cause tension with his or her family.

The rest of the song continues with more adventure and uncertainty, with references to a strange jalopy (old car) and a mysterious silver lining. The final lines suggest that the singer doesn't know what will happen next but is open to possibilities. Overall, the song's lyrics paint a picture of a person or people living life on their own terms, embracing the unexpected and finding joy in the journey.

RIP Scott Weiland. You were a terrific talent. I only wish you could have beaten your demons... I saw you live in late summer 2013, your last South Florida show at Revolution Live with my wife. We LOVED it! What electricity in the room... it was "The Bourbon Room" (ie The Whisky stand-in) for the film ROCK OF AGES. I will never forget hearing him sing Roadhouse Blues from The Doors, thinking "Man! He really NAILS the spirit of rock n roll that Jim embodied." And now he's gone... what a waste. I will truly miss this guy as a live entertainer - one of the 90s alternative scenes very best. Respect for some really great songs that will outlive the man himself...

+Christopher Lanza You're right about that Van Halen 2007 HOF induction. Hmmm... was it drugs, or was Weiland just "that much" of a jack*ss the night he stood in to perform for the absent Van Halen?? Although... LOL... certainly FEW bands have endured MORE dysfunction than Van Halen THEMSELVES... So hey, from that point of view - maybe Scott Weiland was the best POSSIBLE Diamond Dave doppelganger to pay tribute to Van Halen!

"ROUND...! ROUND...! ROUND...!"

LOL LOL Ahhh, Velvet Revolver performing Sammy & VH's "Runaround'... painful LOL

Christopher Lanza

Used to think much more of him before I read his book..and watched him make a complete ass out of himself at Van Halen's Hall Of Fame Induction. Way to go Scott!!!
