The End... Tis Rising in Squares
Screaming Mechanical Brain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you find that the pieces don't match up?
You will see as they grow up tall
The higher you go the farther you fall
TETRIS!
Why do we feel the overpowering need to
Seems to me we'll continue the struggle
In this way eternally
When you wake from the American dream
And find you no longer fit the mold
Suddenly you're dead to the world
And you've been left out in the cold
When you think you've won
You will disappear
And when you are wrong
You will be dead and gone
The lyrics to "The End... Tis Rising in Squares" by Screaming Mechanical Brain can be interpreted in various ways, but the underlying message is about the inevitability of failure and the futility of building walls, both literally and figuratively. The first verse refers to building walls, which is a metaphor for trying to compartmentalize and control different aspects of one's life, but realizing that things don't always fit perfectly. The higher one tries to go, the farther they fall, which could represent the potential consequences of being too ambitious and taking unnecessary risks.
The chorus, which repeats the word "Tetris" several times, is a reference to the popular video game that involves fitting differently shaped blocks together to complete a row. The game can be seen as a metaphor for life, where we must constantly fit together different pieces and make them work in order to succeed. However, even if we do everything right, the blocks will keep falling, and eventually, we will fail.
The second verse touches on the struggles and contradictions of life. We want to fight against incongruities and make sense of the world, but it seems like the struggle is endless and we will never fully understand everything. The line "when you wake from the American dream" refers to the disillusionment that many people experience when they realize that the idealized version of the American dream is not attainable for everyone. The final lines of the song are a stark reminder that winning is not always possible, and even if we think we have succeeded, our time on this earth is limited.
Overall, the song is a commentary on the human condition and the struggles we face as we try to navigate through life. It encourages listeners to embrace failure and imperfection and to not get too caught up in trying to control every aspect of their lives.
