Back in 1979 I was 15 and Dash Crofts had recently moved to Northridge where I grew up. My friend and I were trying to earn money for trip to Arizona by going door to door asking people if we could wash their cars for about $2. Crofts let us wash what must have been a custom painted Jaguar, but unfortunately and entirely by accident, the Joy dish soap we used ruined his high gloss paint job, which we didn't notice until he came out. He was horrified. He kept saying, "Oh wow, this looks really bad" as he walked around the car. But he was such a nice guy, he didn't even raise his voice or demand to talk to our parents. In fact, he paid us anyway. I feel really bad about that to this day, 41 years later. Hope he's doing well. The music will live forever.

I am in Spain on vacation and just learned that Jimmy Seals passed away yesterday age 80. Huge fan of Seals & Crofts. Saw them numerous times in concert. Always great. Great albums too. Great harmonies. I am super bummed about this. Saw England Dan and John Ford Coley in concert too. England Dan was Jimmy's brother and later became a country star. He passed several years ago. Jimmy Seals was one of the best entertainers I ever saw in concert. I think the song Summer Breeze is pure genius.

I can still remember this tune coming through the airwaves in 1972. I was 13 years old then, and even then I knew this was going to be a MAJOR hit! Great song, even now, 50+ years later.

Sweet, I remember in the early seventies driving through the deserted desert in the summer with the windows open wide and this song playing on the radio. I could feel and see a house with a big tree, a woman in the kitchen after a days hard work.And the expressions made in the song of those feelings in day to day relations. Nicely done. I Hope Seals rest in peace.

I was a newborn baby when this song came out, but I remember it regularly being on the radio years later. I took this smooth iconic music for granted then. I ignored it for decades while I listened to metal, punk, and grunge. I still like all of that music, however, I now LOVE this smooth sound. Many of the songs of this era feel like being in the arms of someone that you adore, and/or like cherished memories.

I was born the same year this song came out. Smooth and soft. It is interesting to note that The Home Depot used this in television commercials for their Hampton Bay ceiling fans, 25 years later, in 1997.

The 1970s were definitely the times of the softest of soft rock, soft enough to be played on the beautiful music easy listening radio stations that have disappeared from regular radio. Those were softer musical times, to be certain about that.

@@jasonburger3533 Now that you mention radio programming...apparently I am getting old because I remember the "oldies" stations playing big-band and orchestra music. Then it was early rock 'n' roll, then 60's music and now 70's rock. Soon it will be 80's music, and then grunge. Haha. Maybe there are 80's and 90's music programming already; idk, I don't listen to radio anymore. I do miss what I consider an "oldies" station for the occasional 50's and 60's music.

@@ottomatic3123 I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. KRTH101-FM, which has been on the air since the early 1940s, but has had an oldies format since 1972, and has been playing mostly 1980s music for over 5 years, but has thrown in music from as recent as 2008 and calls that oldies.

Through the 1980s and 1990s and early 2000s, they had a playlist of 1950s and 1960s music, then eventually added the 1970s by the early 2000s, but is mostly 1980s music, including new wave. I guess that could be called "old new wave." In 1972, when they went all oldies, music of 30 years ago was in the early 1940s. In 2020, music from 30 years ago is from the 1990s and the 1980s is from 31 years to 40 years ago, so by that standard, in the number of years, they qualify as oldies, even though to those who grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, that music sounded so modern.

KRTH-FM, which still uses an illustration of the Earth as its symbol, is one of the original and largest oldies stations in the United States. KOLA-FM 99.1, another southern California oldies station, has changed to mostly 1980s music as well. It appears to be that way throughout the oldies station industry nationwide.

I could understand 1980s and maybe some early 1990s music being considered oldies, but the 2008 song seems much too new, at 12 years old, to be considered oldies. The radio industry has really changed a lot and I think there is so much competition, such as satellite radio, HD radio, and the Internet for music, that they are pressing it to sound as current as possible.

There is an AM station in the Los Angeles region that plays on one of its HD FM frequency, the oldies from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970a. When they added 1980s music, they got complaints from listeners and dropped the 1980s music. I think their call sign is KSURF-AM and HD FM radio. They have a website that lists the songs currently being played on air. Their main radio station is KKGO-FM, which, ironically, has a modern "bro country" format.

For those that go for the old oldies in this region, they are the only station that plays them on free over-the-air radio. Otherwise, 1980s through 2008 is oldies nowadays. How times have changed. Los Angeles is the second-largest radio market nationally, so what is done here often is often copied throughout the radio industry. So many mergers and consolidations have made so much of radio lose a lot of its individuality, but it is still free and accessible, so still listened to by many.

KRTH was once so popular that they had used supermodel Carol Alt in their commercials on television in the mid-1980s. Their current mostly 1980s oldies format generates high ratings, so despite some grumblings, they do have a large listenership.

However, anything from Seals & Crofts would be considered too old for their oldies format, as much as that seems strange.

When I was in high school back in the late 70's I had signed up for a science class..."Oceanography". I had specifically asked my school counselor if there was anything offered other than Biology for Sophomores. She said I could sign up for "Oceanography...which I did.
Now the only reason I told that part of the story is to bring this up...the Science teacher who taught it kept a stereo set in his classroom. When we worked on team projects, the stereo would come on. Usually he only played Classical Music...nothing else. We hated it, but no choice...that was all he played. One day towards the end of class the Science teacher had to leave classroom to run quick errand. You would think that one brave student would go up and switch the station on stereo, but no one was brave enough.

However, as we listened and worked on our projects...suddenly this song; "Summer Breeze" came on. Everyone stopped what they were doing and just listened to the song. It was truly a breath of fresh air! Then the station went back to playing their classical line up. I remember someone saying; "at least we got to listen to a "great song for a change." We noticed the clock and it was time to clean up...so we finished what we doing quickly. No one said anything else...and the bell rang. Now every time I hear this song I am transported back to AHS and hearing "Summer Breeze" play on our science teacher's stereo.

When I was younger I always heard this song and I envisioned myself with my own little family. Now I have my own little family and everything the song says is a reality for me. For reason I was prompted here after meeting a 16 year old girl who was working at Walgreens and her name was "Jasmine." I started thinking about the song "Summer Breeze" so I came here to listen 🎶 to this magical song! Synchronicity? Yes for sure✨ The script has been written and we are all here playing our parts ...
