If I keep disregarding the pain that has brought me here
I'll leave the misery out, you can't keep me delivering something real
If I keep disrespecting the path that will help you heal
You keep on thinking it's the only direction
I'll keep on burning these bridges that you hold so dear
If I keep disregarding the pain that has brought me here
If I keep disrespecting the path that will help you heal
You keep on guessing but don't know my intentions
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
You must have done something to me
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
I can't breathe
Break it, break it, break it, break it, break it up
Break it, break it, break it, break it, break it up
Break it, break it, break it, break it, break it up
Break it, break it, break it, break it, break it up
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
With every lesson you learn, keep it shining as you throw it at me
Say then you might get burned
In "Burn the Bridges," Seether's lead singer Shaun Morgan speaks to someone who has been causing him a great deal of pain. The song is about moving on and burning bridges, quite literally, with the person who has hurt him. Morgan sings about disregarding the pain that has brought him to a certain point and leaving the misery behind. He also talks about disrespecting the path that will help the other person heal. In the chorus, Morgan sings about keeping a lesson shining as you throw it at someone and saying that you might get burned. Essentially, he's saying that if someone throws their hurt at him, he'll take what he can from it, but he won't let that person continue to hurt him.
The lyrics are quite intense and speak to the idea of moving on from toxic relationships. Interesting enough, the lyrics to the song were originally written by Morgan while he was still in the band Saron Gas, before it was renamed Seether. The song was released on Seether's third studio album titled "Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces." It was a huge commercial success, and it peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. "Burn the Bridges" was also made into a music video, which shows the release of anger at the person who has caused the pain.
