Seether
Seether (feat. Amy Lee) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph
And I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
when you're gone away
Youve gone away
You don't feel me here anymore
The worst is over now
And we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high and steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn
And no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'Cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
(Instrumental)
'Cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone
You've gone away
You dont feel me anymore
The lyrics of Seether's "Broken" featuring Amy Lee is an emotional ode to lost love and the pain of being alone. The vulnerability of the singer emerges in lines like "I'm broken when I'm lonesome" and "I don't feel like I am strong enough." What's powerful about the song is the way that the emotions of loss and sadness are intertwined with a deep sense of longing for the person who has gone away. The singer knows that the relationship is over, but the memory of it lingers on. They keep a photograph of their lost love, and they want to "hold you high and steal your pain."
The chorus really captures the essence of the song's tragedy-- "I'm broken when I'm lonesome / And I don't feel right when you're gone away." There is just so much heartache and regret in those lines, and they really show that the singer is struggling to move on. The pain of the past is all-encompassing, and it is hard to find a way through.
Overall, the song is a powerful account of the agony of lost love. The yearning to hold onto something that is gone is something that everyone can relate to, and Seether's poignant lyrics and Amy Lee's soaring vocals do a powerful job of conveying that feeling.

@Paul YT This song is originally by Veruca Salt, an awesome band from the '90s fronted by two women (that's why the lyrics refer to a female.) Seether named the band after this song.

Others think differently but I honesty think this is better than the original because they're voices match the play style unlike the other one. But that's justo opinion.

I don't know what "the voices match the play style" means, but the two versions are played with very different styles. This version is much more plodding and... I don't know, trying to be "epic?"
I like it, but I greatly prefer the original; it has much more energy behind it, and more vocal inflection and feeling to it. This version is kind of flat, without the vocal nuances and flourishes of the original. I keep listening to this version and get frustrated when the original had an uplift at certain parts that this one just lacks, replaced by a plain sustained note.
Plus it's a song about female rage and struggling to control it, which has a lot more meaning when actually sung by women.
