The original members were Richard Fielding and Andrew Wright, and were soon joined by Tom Ellard. This later changed to Garry Bradbury, Paul Deering, and Tom Ellard; Ellard has been the only one to remain throughout the group's career, with changing lineups throughout its two and a half decades of existence, later working mainly with Stephen Jones. Robert Racic was an integral part of the band during the late eighties/early nineties.
Severed Heads performed a final concert in Sydney in January 2010. Tom Ellard uploaded a farewell video of Sevs in Space to Youtube, which may be considered as a requiem of sorts.
In early 2008, Ellard added the following text to the bottom of the official site's front page, "Severed Heads do not have a MySpace page. It is a fake. The band is dead,". (www.sevcom.com).
Midget Sings
Severed Heads Lyrics

Mister, I am trouble, I am
Flies and sings and catches the sun
Ripples talk, ripples remember
CHORUS:
There's a cage in the town
There's people don't know I'm around
The girls are understanding and they'd truly like to say
Keep a rugged profile and you're rolling in their hay
The boys have grown to like you and they closely watch your game
If only they were older, then they'd surely do the same
Take a look in my traveling bag
Mister, I am trouble, I am
Work and run and breathe things slow
Ripples talk, ripples remember--CHORUS
The song "Midget Sings" by Severed Heads explores the theme of identity and how it can be easily obscured or distorted. The singer discusses how he is trouble and catches attention, but also remains hidden from the people around him. There is a sense of danger in the sound around him, but also a sense of intrigue and attraction. The singer seems to take pride in his ambiguity, able to transform reality and perception with his words and actions. The chorus speaks to the loneliness and isolation the singer feels, unable to fully connect with those around him, except through his abilities to create ripples.
Throughout the song, there is a dichotomy between the genders, with the girls being understanding and attracted to the singer's rough exterior, while the boys are more interested in observing and mimicking his game. There is a sense of longing and desire from both sides, with the singer alluding to potentially reciprocating these feelings if only circumstances were different (i.e. if the boys were older).
Overall, the song leaves the listener with an eerie sense of intrigue, with the singer existing as both a source of potential danger and attraction. The lyrics suggest a level of secrecy and manipulation, with the singer in control of his own image and public perception.
