Her success was further solidified with the Spanish albums Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 (2005), Sale el Sol (2010) and El Dorado (2017), all of which topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and were certified diamond (Latin) by the Recording Industry Association of America. De pies descalzos y de sueños blancos
Fuiste polvo, polvo eres
Fuiste polvo, polvo eres
Fuiste polvo, polvo eres
Fuiste polvo, polvo eres
In Shakira's song Pies Descalzos Sueños Blancos, the lyrics speak about the human race and its history. The first verse mentions that humans belonged to an ancient race, who wore no shoes but had big dreams. The verse also talks about how humans were once dust and will turn to dust again. The second verse speaks about the fall of humans from grace, how they ate the forbidden fruit of knowledge, and how they condemned the serpent to make way for their own destruction. Shakira then talks about how humans were once struggling against dinosaurs while living under the open sky with no protection but have now created a world where everything is part of a well-calculated plan. The message is that humans have come a long way, but at what cost?
The chorus repeats that humans belonged to an ancient race of dreamers who had no shoes, emphasizing that things have changed, and people have become very different from their ancestors. The last verse speaks about the society's expectations of individuals in a sarcastic tone. Human life has turned into a series of duties, obligations, and ways of conforming to social norms without much scope for anyone to be different, creating a need for divine intervention to protect from evil thoughts. Shakira highlights the importance of living life on one's terms and not get caught up in the rat race, trying to fit in with the society's expectations.
