Easton rose to fame in the early 1980s with the pop hits "9 to 5" (known as "Morning Train" in the United States), "For Your Eyes Only", "Strut", "Sugar Walls", "U Got the Look" with Prince, and "The Lover in Me". She went on to become successful in the United States and Japan, working with prominent vocalists and producers, such as Prince, Christopher Neil, Kenny Rogers, David Foster, Luis Miguel, L.A. Sheena Easton is the only artist in the history of the US Billboard charts to have top 5 hit on each of the Billboards key charts consecutively: Adult Contemporary, Dance, Pop, Country, and R&B. In the UK, Easton has 3 top 40 albums and 8 top 40 singles to date. There's no affection, just static connection, so I've made the choice
[Chorus:]
I'm gonna start hangin' up, I'm tired of your telephone lines
We might as well disconnect, this love's goin' nowhere
Don't even bother to call, your telephone line's sayin' all
Goodbye baby, put me on hold for the last time
Say "Sorry, but something's come up"
I'm changin' my number, I'm relisted under the lonely
[Chorus:]
You sound convincing, but I know you're only wasting my time
It don't make sense, so don't even waste your dime
[Chorus:] repeats out
The lyrics to Sheena Easton's song "Telephone" speak of the frustration that one can feel in a relationship that relies too heavily on communication via telephone. The line "I've had enough of your telephone lines, I don't hear the truth in your voice" suggests that the singer has come to the realization that their partner is not being honest with them over the phone, and that communication over the phone is not fulfilling for them anymore. The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's desire to disconnect from the relationship entirely, with phrases like "We might as well disconnect, this love's goin' nowhere" and "Goodbye baby, put me on hold for the last time."
The line "You make an excuse from a telephone booth, Say 'Sorry, but something's come up'" is particularly interesting because it speaks to a time when telephone booths were still a common means of communication. In modern times, it's more likely that a person would use their own cell phone to make excuses, rather than going to a telephone booth. Additionally, the line "I'm relisted under the lonely" suggests that the singer has taken steps to distance themselves from their partner and embrace their newfound singledom.
Overall, the song "Telephone" is a relatable and emotional exploration of the ways in which communication can impact romantic relationships.

I've been away from you
For far too long
Too much absence
Makes the heart go frantic
I wanna tell you
What's been going on
Operator, get me Transatlantic
I sit alone as the night goes by
Stare at the phone
And wait for your reply
Long, long distance love affair, oh, oh
I can't find you anywhere, oh, oh
I call you on the telephone
But you're never home
I gotta get a message to you
Wanna tell you what I'm going through, oh, oh
What in the world's coming over you
How come you're acting like a total stranger
I try to reach you but I can't get through
I got this feeling that my heart's in danger
I got your letter
It was perfectly clear
Having a ball
And wishing you were here
Long, long distance love affair, oh, oh
I can't find you anywhere, oh, oh
I call you on the telephone
But you're never home
I gotta get a message to you
Wanna tell you what I'm going through, oh, oh
Premonition is a funny thing
Unfamiliar kind of vague and hazy
Like knowing when
The phone is gonna ring
Too many times and
It'll drive you crazy
I hear you echoing along the hall
Call out your name
But no one's there at all
Long, long distance love affair, oh, oh
I can't find you anywhere, oh, oh
I call you on the telephone
But you're never home
Long, long distance love affair, oh, oh
I can't find you anywhere, oh, oh
I call you on the telephone
You're never home
Long, long distance love affair, oh, oh
I can't find you anywhere, oh, oh
I call you on the telephone
But you're never home
Long, long distance love affair....

I think every year there were great songs & shitty songs. We are just hearing the great songs from yesteryears because the shitty ones got forgotten and lost in time.
