Bully
Shinedown Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It’s 8 AM, this hell I’m in
Seems I’ve crossed a line again
For being nothing more than who I am
So break my bones and throw your stones
We all know that life ain’t fair
But there’s more of us we’re everywhere

We don’t have to take this back against the wall
We don’t have to take this we can end it all

All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully

Think it through you can’t undo
Whenever I see black and blue I feel the past, I share the bruise
With everyone who’s come and gone
My head is clear my voice is strong, now I’m right here to right the wrong

We don’t have to take this back against the wall
We don’t have to take this we can end it all

All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully

It’s 8 AM, the hell I’m in
Your voice is strong, now right the wrong

All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully

All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully

We don’t have to take this back against the wall
We don’t have to take this we can end it all

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Shinedown's song "Bully" are an anthem for anyone who has ever been bullied or marginalized for simply being who they are. The song opens with the singer saying "It’s 8 AM, this hell I’m in, Seems I’ve crossed a line again, For being nothing more than who I am." These lines illustrate the pain and anxiety that come with being targeted for being different or standing out. The chorus is a powerful message to bullies everywhere: "All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully, Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely, Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me, No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully."

The second verse talks about the shared trauma that comes from being bullied, saying "Whenever I see black and blue, I feel the past, I share the bruise, With everyone who’s come and gone, My head is clear my voice is strong, now I’m right here to right the wrong." The singer is speaking not only for themselves, but for anyone who has been hurt by bullies. The powerful refrain at the end of the song, "We don’t have to take this back against the wall, We don’t have to take this we can end it all," is a call to action for anyone who has ever been bullied to stand up and fight back.

Overall, "Bully" is a powerful song that speaks to a deeply personal and painful experience for many people. It offers a message of hope and encourages listeners to stand up for themselves and others who may be hurting.

As a former bully who was bullying people because i was bullied myself, i love this song and want to say "sorry for what i did to you' every time i here this song.

I was violent because i was violented, that sux. Sorry to everyone i've hurt in my life.

Great song, remind me of my young year. I was 22 years old at when the some was aired, the time when the neo-metal wave (even if it was soft metal for me) told me that you don't need to hurt anyone even if someone hurt you. That's logical since i'm an adult but when i was 15 years old that was difficult to manage. Keeping what this anger that other people gave me was so hard. Now when someone try to hurt me for free, i am sad for them because i know something goes wrong for them.

And i use thai boxing i've learned after college if they are too dangerous. I'm not jesus, slap me and i'll fuck you up.

Only Shinedown could be this cool while covering a serious topic such as bullying.
The amount of truth this band pumps out is remarkable.

Just Some Guy without a Mustache

Not only does this song support literally everyone who’s experienced bullying but this is genuinely one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard at the same time.
