She now resides in Monaco and has recently sold her London apartment. Many of its furnishings were auctioned for charity. Two very popular 'Audiences With Shirley Bassey' have aired on British TV, the most recent being in March 2006.
In 2006, UK retailer Marks and Spencer hired Bassey for their Christmas advertising campaign, with Dame Shirley singing a cover of P!nk's 'Get the Party Started'.
In late 2009 Bassey released 'The Performance' her first studio album for two decades, which was released in a maelstrom of anticipation. Still popular well into one of the longest and most illustrious musical careers in British and indeed international history, Bassey is considered by Brits to be a national treasure.
No One Ever Tells You
Shirley Bassey Lyrics

Like to love and lose
How it feels to waken and have
Breakfast with the blues
How to go on livin', how to face another day
No one ever tells you the way
No one ever tells you how
Listenin' for those footsteps through the
Echo of your own suddenly it hit's you
All those dreams weren't worth a dime
'Cause no one ever tells you in time
Long beforе the icy winds of winter
Autumn tells thе swallows, "Time to fly"
Why did he pretend till the bitter end
Till it broke my heart to say goodbye?
No one ever tells you that
It's just another fling
No one ever warns you when
Your heart begins to sing
Someone tells you later all is
Fair in love and war
But no one ever tells you before
Long before the icy winds of winter
Autumn tells the swallows, "Time to fly"
Why did he pretend till the bitter end
Till it broke my heart to say goodbye?
No one ever tells you that
It's just another fling
No one ever warns you when
Your heart begins to sing
Someone tells you later all is
Fair in love and war
But no one ever tells you before
The lyrics to Shirley Bassey's song "No One Ever Tells You" explore the theme of love and loss, and the emotional journey that comes with it. The song expresses the sentiment that nobody ever prepares you for the experience of love and how it can lead to heartbreak. It highlights the lack of guidance and advice given on how to navigate the complexities of love and the aftermath of losing someone.
The first verse describes the unfamiliarity of loving and losing, and the loneliness and sadness that accompany these experiences. The singer awakens with a heavy heart, metaphorically having "breakfast with the blues," symbolizing the lingering sadness in the face of loss. The lyrics express the struggle of continuing to live and face another day without the person they loved, and the absence of guidance on how to do so.
The second verse delves into the feeling of being alone after losing someone. The singer listens for the sound of footsteps, hoping to hear their loved one's presence, but only hears the echoes of their own steps. This highlights the sense of emptiness and the realization that their dreams and hopes were not worth much in the end. The lyrics reveal a sense of betrayal and sadness, asking why the person they loved pretended until the very end, ultimately breaking their heart when they had to say goodbye.
Overall, "No One Ever Tells You" conveys the message that love and loss are universal experiences that are not adequately explained or prepared for in life. It speaks to the emotional challenges that accompany these experiences and the subsequent longing for guidance and understanding.
