Shirley Caesar Lyrics

Oh, what a foretaste, a foretaste of glory divine, oh yes
And an Heir to Salvation, yes, Amen, I've been purchased by God
So glad, born of His Spirit, oh glory
I'm just washed in His blood
This is my story, this is my, my song, thank God for my song
I'm praising my Savior all the day long, Alleluia
I'm praising my Savior I don't ever get tired of praisin' Him
All the day long, Alleluia
Perfect submission
Oh, perfect delight, that's what it is in my life
Visions of rapture, look at it bursting on my sight
You know what, you know what
Now the angels are descending, yes, they are
Praying from up above, yeah, whoa yeah, yes
Echoes of mercy, mercy suits my case
And whispers of love, Alleluia, Alleluia
This is my story, oh this is my song
I'm praising my Savior, Alleluia
And praising Him all the day long
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh this is my story, yes it is, yes it is, yes it is
I've got my song, Alleluia
Praisin' my Savior, all the day long
Praisin' my Savior, all the day long
Praisin' my Savior, all the day
All the day long, all day long
The opening line of the hymn “Blessed Assurance” by Shirley Caesar sets the tone for the rest of the song, as it speaks of the singer’s unshakable faith in Jesus. The repetition of the word “mine” emphasizes the personal nature of this faith, as if Caesar is reminding herself that this assurance belongs to her, and her alone. She then goes on to describe the joy and anticipation that comes with knowing Jesus, referring to it as a “foretaste of glory divine.” This phrase conjures up images of heaven, and the rapture that believers anticipate when they, too, will be with Jesus in paradise.
The next verse reaffirms Caesar’s conviction that she is bound for salvation, a concept that is central to many Christian hymns. She thanks God for purchasing her with his love and for making her new, born of his spirit and washed in his blood. The following verses speak of “perfect submission” and “perfect delight,” which can be interpreted as surrendering oneself completely to God and finding true joy in that surrender. Caesar describes the visions of rapture bursting into her sight, and the angels descending and singing on high. The hymn ends with Caesar rejoicing that this is her story, her song, and that she is grateful to be spending all day, every day, praising her savior.
