Always a great song, I remember from my youth. She could not speak English and sang phonetically. Despite the free-spirited lifestyle of so many in the music industry at that time, Mariska never embraced the rock n roll lifestyle. She never drank or took drugs and made it clear upon joining the band that she would not get romantically involved with any of the members. She was pleasantly naïve, when the bands founder and chief lyricist, Robbie Van Leeuwen shouted at her she burst into tears and rang her mother who promptly phoned the band’s manager to complain!In 2006 Mariska Veres died of cancer. She never married or had any children. By her own admission she was unapproachable in the early days, she considered herself as little more than a doll who never found true inner happiness until she turned her back on the industry and pressures of being a beautiful woman in the spotlight. So here’s the video to her most successful single with the Shocking Blue. The lip synching is not great, it never was back then but she certainly has a presence. Forget comparisons with todays artists and imagine seeing her in the late sixties for the first time, there was just something about her…

@Alex Syritsyn I see, so those hand-made records were of an earlier era. Doing some reading they were made illegal by the 1950's and mostly eliminated. Later, western music was not illegal but there was no legitimate state-sanctioned distribution. By this time easier and more portable forms of recording like cassette tapes were available.

In the west, the recording industry developed a similar format to Rock on the Bone in the 60's. Soft vinyl records, or "Flexi-Discs" could be made very cheaply and the flexible material was more durable in transit. Traditional vinyl records were still preferred for quality recordings. Eventually in the 80's these Flexi-Discs were included for free in all sorts of products like magazines, books, cereal boxes, etc. Later ones included actual computer programs.

My daughter's favourite song is "American Pie".

Да сделана обработка на современный лад, и звучит красиво. Но это оригинал, а оригинал всегда дороже новодела. Дааа...были времена скакали под эту вещь и просто слушали. Маришку я увидел по телевизору в армии, была передача мелодии и ритмы зарубежной эстрады. Вот там она пела демон любви песню, эта её вещь и сейчас нравится. До этого только на перефотаграфированых фотографиях.

@Roberto Sorrento - in the 1980s, the girl group "Bananarama" covered this song, and they got the ending words of the chorus, "At your desire" wrong, and said "what's your desire," which wasn't as sexy or mysterious, and not too hard to make a mistake. The group was Dutch, but Mariska Veres, the singer, was Hungarian. They were really popular in Europe around 1970.
