Shocking Blue's by far biggest hit was Venus, which went to #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. 'Venus' returned to the top of the U.S. charts in 1981 as part of the Stars on 45 Medley and was also successfully covered by artists such as Greece's Olympians (1970), Bananarama (1986), Japanese singer Yoko Nagayama (1986).
Nirvana covered the song Love Buzz for their debut album Bleach in 1989, and it was released as their first single. The British Group The Prodigy also sampled Love Buzz for their song 'Phoenix' on their 2004 album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned.
Before 'Venus' the group had only had two minor Dutch hits in 1969: Long Lonesome Road and Send Me A Postcard. In 1970 two more hits followed: Mighty Joe and Never Marry A Railroad Man, the latter almost provoking a strike by workers on the London Underground when posters advertising the single in the Underground stations were put on display.
Shocking Blue had several more hits in The Netherlands and beyond. The group started to dissolve in 1973 when Van Leeuwen called it quits. Singer Mariska Veres left the group to start a solo-career in 1974 and Shocking Blue folded.
Mariska Veres died on December 2nd, 2006, after a short battle with cancer. She was just 59 years old.

Everybody groove
Everybody shake
Mary, Mary, you're on my mind
The folks are gone and the place'll be mine
Mary, Mary, wanna be with you
I'm gonna put a call to you
'Cause I feel good tonight
And everything's gonna be right, right, right
I'm gonna have a good time tonight
Rock and roll music gonna play all night
Come on, baby, it won't take long
Only take a minute just to sing my song
Boney Moroney's gonna be with him
I said, Long Tall Sally's gonna be with Slim
And Short Fat Fanny's gonna, she's gonna be there too
And this is what I'm gonna do
Well, I've got to put a call to you
'Cause I feel good tonight
And everything's gonna be right, right, right
I'm gonna have a good time tonight
Rock and roll music gonna play all night
Come on, baby, it won't take long
Only take a minute just to sing my song
Boney Moroney's gonna be with Jimmy
Long Tall Sally's gonna be with him
And Short Fat Fanny's gonna be there too
And this is what I'm gonna do
I've got to put the call to you
'Cause I feel good tonight
And everything's gonna be right, right, right
I'm gonna have a good time tonight
Rock and roll music gonna play all night
Come on, baby, it won't take long
Only take a minute just to sing my song
The lyrics to Shocking Blue's song "Good Times" are an upbeat, danceable celebration of the joy and freedom of youth. The opening lines, "Everybody shake, everybody groove, everybody shake," set the tone for a party-like atmosphere, encouraging everyone to let loose and have a good time. The lyrics then shift to focus on a specific person, Mary, who is on the singer's mind. The song describes a scenario where the singer is home alone with the space to themselves and wants to call Mary to join them.
The lyrics then become a call to action, with the singer declaring their intentions to have a good time and play rock and roll music all night. The mention of specific people, such as Boney Moroney, Long Tall Sally, and Short Fat Fanny, adds to the fun and playful nature of the song. The repetition of the phrase "And this is what I'm gonna do, I've got to put the call to you, 'cause I feel good tonight, and everything's gonna be right, right, right," reinforces the idea that the singer is determined to have a good time and wants Mary, and everyone else, to join in.
Overall, the lyrics to "Good Times" are simple and straightforward, but the catchy melody and upbeat rhythm make it an irresistible anthem for anyone looking to let loose and have a good time.

ПРЕКРАСНОЕ ВРЕМЯ
Перевод песни "Good Times"
группы Shocking Blue

I have listened to Shocking Blue's songs since I was a boy, and I have learned English language a lot from this shocking group. I even didn't recognize at that time if Shocking Blue was a great band from the Netherlands because of Mariska sang in fluently English. Thanks!
