You treat me like you never did belong
Can’t read the answer in your eyes
It’s up to you, so realize
I want to know
I’m running out of control
It’s time that you show
Remember when we used to talk all night
But now nothing seems to be alright
Oh-oh
I told you million times before
I’ll let you go when we don’t talk no more
I want to know
I’m running out of control
I want to know
It’s time that you show
Little boy don’t talk to me
I can’t believe in you
Don’t need you
Can’t you hear my heart of stone
Is cryin’ out to you
I hate you
Oh, I hate you
I never thought you’ll let me down
I’m desperate falling to the ground
I want to know
I’m running out of control
I want to know
It’s time that you show
Little boy don’t talk to me
I can’t believe in you
Don’t need you
Can’t you hear my heart of stone
Is cryin’ out to you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
In the song "I Want To Know" by Shylock, the lyrics convey feelings of frustration, confusion, and betrayal in a relationship. The persona is reaching out to their companion, asking them to communicate and reveal what is wrong. It is evident that they feel excluded and like an outsider in the relationship, as they are being treated as if they don't belong. The persona pleads to their partner to show them what's going on and to acknowledge the deterioration of their connection.
The chorus highlights the urgency and desperation of the persona's desire to understand their partner's feelings. They feel like they are losing control and need answers to regain a sense of stability in the relationship. The use of the phrase "I want to know" emphasizes their need for clarity and resolution.
The second verse reminisces about the past when they used to have deep conversations and spend long nights talking. However, things have changed, and now everything feels wrong. The persona expresses their frustration, reminding their partner that they have tried to communicate their concerns multiple times before, but if they continue to avoid talking and distance themselves, the persona will have no choice but to let go.
The final part of the song intensifies the emotions, with the persona expressing anger and resentment. They reject their partner, proclaiming that they no longer believe in them and don't need them. The persona's heart, portrayed as being made of stone, is calling out for attention and care, but their partner fails to hear it. The repetition of "I hate you" underscores the intensity of their feelings of disappointment and betrayal.
Overall, "I Want To Know" explores the themes of miscommunication, frustration, and a longing for understanding and connection in a troubled relationship.
