In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music's sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year. Displeased with the promotion of the record, she signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The project struggled to connect with a mainstream audience, and so Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and began touring across the United States. She released her fourth and fifth studio releases, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She then took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists. Her catalogue includes the successful collaborations "Titanium" (with David Guetta), "Diamonds" (with Rihanna) and "Wild Ones" (with Flo Rida).
In 2014, Sia released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, which debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten breakthrough single "Chandelier" and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, "Cheap Thrills". The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.

Constantly unwinding, beautiful calm driving
You turned into another
You turned into nutter
You turned into another man
You're a stranger to me
You're a danger to me
You're a danger
To me
Beautiful calm driving, emotional hiding
Effortlessly shining, beautiful calm driving
You turned into another
You turned into nutter
You turned into another man
You're a stranger to me
You're a danger to me
You're a stranger to me
You're a danger to me
You're a stranger to me
You're a danger to me
You're a stranger to me
You're a danger to me
Beautiful calm driving
At its core, "Beautiful Calm Driving" is a song about coping with a relationship that has gone awry. The lyrics suggest that the couple has experienced a significant rift in their connection, and the singer is trying to reconcile the person she used to know with the person her partner has become. This is expressed through the repeated lines, "You turned into another / You turned into nutter / You turned into another man." The ordinary, mundane act of driving serves as a metaphor for the emotional journey of the relationship, an attempt to find some inner peace and stability amidst the turmoil.
As the song progresses, the singer is faced with the realization that her partner has become a stranger, someone potentially dangerous to her well-being. The lines "You're a stranger to me / You're a danger to me" are repeated, adding a sense of foreboding and tension to the otherwise serene tone. Despite this realization, the singer continues to find solace in the act of driving, "effortlessly shining" as she tries to find a path forward.
Overall, the lyrics of "Beautiful Calm Driving" paint a picture of a relationship that has gone through a profound change, one that has left both partners feeling disconnected and unsure of where to go next. Through the imagery of driving and diving, the song suggests a desire to find a way back to a state of calmness and security, even as the world around us seems to spin out of control.

All smiles, I know what it takes to fool this town
I'll do it 'til the sun goes down and all through the nighttime
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I'll tell you what you wanna hear
Keep my sunglasses on while I shed a tear
It's never the right time, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong I am
I put my armor on, I'll show you that I am
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
And, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Break down, only alone I will cry out loud
You'll never see what's hiding out
Hiding out deep down, yeah, yeah
I know, I've heard that to let your feelings show
Is the only way to make friendships grow
But I'm too afraid now, yeah, yeah
I put my armor on, show you how strong I am
I put my armor on, I'll show you that I am
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
And, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
I put my armor on, show you how strong I am
I put my armor on, I'll show you that I am
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
Yeah, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Unstoppable today, unstoppable today
