Signal Hill emerged in the fall of 2004 from the cluster of noise and competitiveness so famously known as the music scene of Los Angeles's urban sprawl. Tim Cooper (drums) and Dave Masters (guitar), having known each other only in passing in Phoenix, met with Rishi Arora (guitar) and Brian Vasallo (bass). Immediately, camaraderie and bonds were formed through shared experiences and appreciation for musical influences such as indie rock, instrumental/post-rock, electronic music, jazz and more.

The band performed in earnest at local house parties and small clubs with touring groups. Shortly after the release of a limited-run demo and following a small west coast tour with friends You.May.Die.in.the.Desert and Strangers Die Everyday, the band realized the potential behind their music. The trajectory of the band’s popularity resulted in the first five-song SELF-TITLED EP release, successfully spreading the group’s name nationally.

Almost immediately, the group followed up with the well-received full-length, MORE AFTER WE’RE GONE. The album’s 12 tracks reached a growing fan base, and garnered licensed-use through a number of mediums that include movie trailers, novel previews and non-profit films. After sharing the stage in the US with bands such as Caspian, Beware of Safety, This Will Destroy You, Balmorhea, and many others, the band decided to head over to Australia to play with new friends All India Radio and SleepMakesWaves. The name Signal Hill along with the acclaimed full-length had gained international notice.

However with years of momentum, the reality of life set in with the group. Rishi was accepted at the University in Edinburgh in Scotland, and Dave began incubating his move to Brooklyn, New York with his wife. This only opened a new chapter for this group of friends that refused to let the distance between them dwarf their creative potential. The group soon managed to share creative ideas and muster a limited print EP, rightfully titled DISTANCE.

After years, Signal Hill had managed to hold on to its core of players, as it has always been motivated behind the concept of four best friends sonically connected to play what is in their hearts and minds. After a number of short tours, many shows and an anthology of releases that include a number of limited 7-inches, Signal Hill now establishes itself as a bi-coastal band calling both Los Angeles and New York City home.

The distance between these four individuals has not interfered with their ability to play shows or, most importantly, write music. The recent completion of their new and second full-length album, CHASE THE GHOST is a reflection of the time each band member has experienced prior to and during the formation of Signal Hill, through friendships, old and new relationships and family. Nine dynamically unique tracks transition into each other like a well-formed storyboard that tells a tale as different to each listener as it is to each band member.

When I was a junior school kid back in a remote town in west China, my English teacher used to play us one classical English song every Friday. This song was one of them.

Young as I was, I could not possibly understand the true meaning of this song, just literaly, thought there must be a street without a name, where there is only beauty and happiness, where I would discover when I grew older.

Later I left my hometown to the province's capital for high school, then I traveled 1000 miles to the nation's capital for university, and now I flew 15 hours to America for grad school. Every time I am traveling, or my life is an ugly mess, I came back to this song, with my heart pounding fast, with tear in my eyes.

There is no street having no name. There is only somewhere far away.

Hats off to U2, and this song which influence my whole life.

I was an aimless kid when I first heard Streets on the radio, riding in the back seat of my friends car, the sound cranked up. It changed my life. I literally owe everything I have to that day and this song. The hair stood up on my arms, and I made a decision that my future was up to me, and I could do anything I set my mind to. I played this song at least once a day for probably 20 years after that, and it gave me what I needed to keep going. My girlfriend thought I was crazy to play it so much, but it became the soundtrack of my life, and it still is! Thank you, U2!

I used to play this song at 8am when i was in the streets of glasgow and starting my pavement chalk drawing before the huge shopping crowds arrived...it put me at total peace and ease..it's hard to describe but the streets were empty apart from me and this song as i awaited the huge crowd and it's bustle and response to my pavement art and if i would eat well that night ❤

In Northern Ireland, one could tell whether you were Catholic or Protestant simply by the Name of your street because of the seperation between the Two. Funny how a person remembers things. In 1987 I was standing outside in a line at a US Army movie theater in K-Town Germany, fresh out of boot camp and a GI behind me was playing this album that had just come out on his portable cassette player. I vividly remember hearing this album then and falling in love with the sound. Couldn't tell you the name of the movie. Still listening to it 33 years later.

I know EXACTLY what you're saying. I went with a mate many years ago to see them on the Pop Mart tour in Sydney. My mate had seen them a few times but it was my first time. I walked out of the stadium feeling like....I still can't describe it. My mate said to me after that he had looked at me during the concert & I was just entranced. (We had snuck through the security cordon & ended up in the very front section about 20' from the stage with Adam right in front of us)

Somewhere around ten years old my friend’s mom played this song on tape in their fiero and I borrowed off from her to make a copy. Later, I got the tape then years later, the cd. Here I am at 45 and the Joshua Tree is still my favorite album of all time and on it, this song is the still my favorite. I listen to it to reset and bring back inspiration and hope when I need it.

What really strikes me about this song is how loud it is during the chorus. When I listen to the outro, I can’t help but remember the pure amount of sound contained in the middle that is, in the end, reduced to a single guitar sound. You can kind of view the song’s sonic structure as a musical metaphor on life. The intro has a sense of waking up to it, almost like sense of wonder. I liken this to childhood. When Bono comes in, his lyrics really speak to the struggle of everyday adult life. He talks about wanting to get out of a dark place and get to a paradise, AKA Where the Streets Have no Name. The meat of the song is adulthood. The outro carries a feeling of genuflection and remembrance, it is eerie but beautiful at the same time. I believe that this can correlate with one’s elder years and last days on Earth.

My first U2 show was Chicago 1985 and 3 times in 1987 for The Joshua Tree. An absolute religious experience. U2 in the 80's, nothing better. Then came Achtung Baby and ZOO TV.

PaperGirl This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things I've ever read in my entire life and ironically enough, I had literally just turned 18 when my mum told me she was pregnant even though I, as well as she, was unaware that she was carrying twins but when she, my soon to be new stepdad (aka the father of the twins), and I all found out, it felt like I had a new outlook on life and had discovered what real happiness and true love was like. Oh AND on the morning of the day when my mom had finally confirmed what I had been suspecting for about a month i.e. her being pregnant, I was literally unable to speak for a few minutes because not only was I so surprised, I was also so happy and excited because I grew up being an only child who always wanted a younger sibling BUT the best part was that this song was playing on the radio while she drove me to school and even though we had been going through some hard times in the previous six months, I felt like everything was all going to be ok and most importantly, I was going to experience true happiness. I'm so happy for you and your mom. I have a feeling that you're gonna be an amazing big sister and you're gonna have so much fun. I wish yall all the happiness in the world. Xoxo😍😍😍😍

this song was in my mind all over the first european trip i did with my family back in april 2007. i was 18 at the time and i used to listen to u2 every now and then at the time. didn't had a prom, but i went to visit those enigmatic places. this was the first time i boarded a plane to go meet the main cities of paris, italy and barcelona. this song takes me back to those days where the currencies weren't as expensive as it is now, and a pandemic wasn't even in our minds. miss the days.

ive been hearing my parents listen to these guys my whole life. this one song always fascinated me. At first I kind of just passed off the band, always seemed overplayed and annoying to me, but in the last 3 or so years I started to really listen to my own music. It had been a while since I had listened to my parents music in the car or on a speaker, so I rediscovered U2 while on shuffle. I had never sat down and listened to this song in the same way that I'm sure others have. It really took on a new meaning after I realized just how amazing of a song this is. The meaning behind this song has always been very confusing to me, but when it started playing on the 10 year anniversary of the day my grandfather passed away, a great Irishman himself, I think I knew what this song was really about.

This album saved my life, I was an underage runaway and ready to depart the world. I know the band will never see this but it saved me; the message I heard was to let the past die, you have the power within you to keep going in this ugly word. When Achtung Baby came out I was older and reveled in my independence and adult challenges. I've grown with the one-liners, hooks, it was all I needed - hands of love. That organ intro is perfection. Had the lab tech play the Joshua Tree album for my MRI. This organ intro as I was sliding into the tube was brilliant!! Hard to stay still when this song gets moving.
