Sigur 3
Sigur Rós Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Brosandi
Hendumst í hringi
Höldumst í hendur
Allur heimurinn óskýr
Nema þú stendur

Rennblautur
Allur rennvotur
Engin gúmmístígvél
Hlaupandi í okkur?
Vill springa út úr skel

Vindur í
Og útilykt? af hárinu þínu
Ég lamdi eins fast og ég get
Með nefinu mínu
Hoppa í poll
Í engum stígvélum
Allur rennvotur(rennblautur)
Í engum stígvélum

Og ég fæ blóðnasir
En ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandish)

Og ég fæ blóðnasir

En ég stend alltaf upp
(Hopelandish)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sigur Rós's song Sigur 3 are a beautiful and emotive expression of the power of love and the way that it can be a guiding force in an otherwise uncertain and confusing world. The opening lines, "Brosandi, hendumst í hringi, höldumst í hendur, allur heimurinn óskýr, nema þú stendur" (Smiling, we spin around, hand in hand, the whole world is unclear unless you stand), set the tone for the rest of the song, which builds upon this central idea of the transformative power of love.

Throughout the rest of the song, we see the couple described in the lyrics going through a range of experiences together, from running through the rain to jumping into a pool without shoes on. These experiences are tied together by their love for each other, which is the one constant that remains even as everything else in the world is in flux. The repeated lines "Og ég fæ blóðnasir, en ég stend alltaf upp" (And I get nosebleeds, but I always stand up) reinforce this idea, suggesting that even when things get tough, the power of love can help us overcome our challenges and keep moving forward.

Its 1:00 am, I'm sitting in silence, headphones plugged in, listening to this song, while the world around me sleeps. I close my eyes, and while reflecting on everything I've done in my life, the only thing that comes to my mind is something that was once said by Oscar Wilde : Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace.

This song validates all your pain and longing but is somehow the hug that tells you there is still beauty.

This composition, to me, is the summation of everything I want to say but can't put into words. It's everything I've experienced in life and everything I haven't as well. Even typing this now I can tell it's not going to come out the way I want it to, but maybe that's the point. Glad to be sharing this world with all of you people, sharing this moment in time together. Hope everyone reading this is able to do exactly what they want to do with their time here.
