I Don't Care What the People Say
Silver Apples Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Things have changed since mama held my hand real tight
And wind has blown since I had my supper tonight
Weeping willows always find a way to live
Unfortunate people always have a dime to give

Good times come along any way
I don't care what the people say
Do what I want to any way
Cause I don't care what the people say
I don't care what the people say

Many times I wondered how I was gonna survive
the trails above was involved with keeping myself alive
Sometimes I wonder just what's gonna happen to me
So I woke up my apples until I've shaken my apple tree

Good times come along any way
I don't care what the people say
Do what I want to any way
Cause I don't care what the people say
I don't care what the people say

Well good times come along any way
I don't care what the people say
Do what I want to everyday
I don't care what the people say
I don't care what the people say

Good times come along any way
I don't care what the people say
Do what I want to any way

Cause I don't care what the people say
I don't care what the people say

Overall Meaning

Silver Apples' "I Don't Care What the People Say" is a song that speaks to the concept of freedom and the ability to live your life on your terms. The first stanza talks about the passing of time, how things change and how people always have something to give despite their unfortunate circumstances. This stanza can be interpreted as a representation of how life can take unexpected turns and how you should always be prepared to adapt to the changes that come your way.

The second stanza speaks to the idea of survival and how sometimes all you can do is wonder what's going to happen to you. The line "So I woke up my apples until I've shaken my apple tree" can be interpreted as an action in response to the uncertainty of life. It paints a picture of a person who takes the initiative to awaken themselves, to be proactive, and to do what they can in order to succeed and thrive in life, no matter the obstacles they may face.

The chorus expresses a feeling of defiance and nonconformity. The repeated line "I don't care what the people say" reinforces the importance of following your own desires and living life for what you believe in, rather than being constrained by the opinions of others. The song as a whole offers listeners an empowering message about self-reliance, perseverance, and determination.

How is this from 1969? Sounds decades ahead of its time. Absolutely entrancing track

@yippeeyokai5750

Not a shock, all modern genres of music have roots in the 1960's, the boomers invented all modern music. it's like the only thing they did right.

@ServingOthers99

Pyro Bombastic Flow hahah that does seem to be the case. Wild shit right here

I dunno, to me it really does sound like it's from the sixties. I'm not saying that what they made wasn't extremely innovative and ahead of its time. but it really does give me sixties vibes. the vocal melodies and harmonies. the lyrical themes. the bpm even. very sixties. very good and as you say entrancing none the less. peace n love ✌️
edit - haha I thought I was still commenting on I have known love, this one id definitely a little bit more experimental. I love it.

@ServingOthers99

skyisnotupintheclouds I can see what you’re saying, my friend! That makes a lot of sense
This is just so progressive in some ways that it blows my mind, but the vocals and tones and production are certainly very 60s

@user-jp4le9ys6v

It sounds a lot like Tom Dissevelt's stuff from 1958
