Contrasting the flowery psychedelic rock music of the late-1960s, the New York City-based Silver Apples created an avant-garde sound based on little more than a homemade synthesizer (named the Simeon after their lead singer - Simeon) and an extensive drumkit, originally played by Dan Taylor. They reformed in the 1990s, making new records and playing live again.
Silver Apples were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970's, but underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well.
Misty Mountain
Silver Apples Lyrics

Gold is dripping from your hair as pearls fall in a fountain.
Truth is streaming from your eyes, silver strands of smiles.
Are you are you, here with me and did you count the miles?
Will you, will you, stay with me upon this heaven's bed?
All that you may ask of me need never to be said.
Love dances through my heart and weaves its way to find.
With my love and with my mind
The lyrics to Silver Apples's song Misty Mountain describe a mystical and romantic experience where the singer is in awe of their companion's beauty and truthfulness. The misty mountain setting enhances the sense of enchantment and otherworldliness. The opening stanza uses vivid imagery to evoke the beauty of the companion: "Gold is dripping from your hair as pearls fall in a fountain", conveying a sense of abundance and grace. The second line - "Truth is streaming from your eyes, silver strands of smiles" -suggests that the companion is sincere, trustworthy and happy. The question, "Are you are you, here with me and did you count the miles?" reveals the singer's longing for their companion and the distances traveled to be in each other's company.
The second stanza of "Misty Mountain" continues with the romantic and mysterious tone. The singer pleads with their companion to stay with them "upon this heaven's bed". The singer is promising unconditional love and asks their companion to not "ask of [them] need never to be said". The last line of the stanza "If you will, if you will, stay with me" is a straightforward request but carries a sense of pleading and desperation. The final line, "With my love and with my mind" suggests that the singer is offering both the emotional and intellectual aspects of their being to their companion.
