Brookfield
Silverstein Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A twenty six ounce promise
The bottle still lays there
We'll make a right on Brookfield
Never took anyone else here
The days I sit for hours
This night I tried to throw these rocks in two
Just [?] that's home
You standing in my backyard
Your hands up in the air
Calling out my name one hundred times but I'm not there
I think you telling secrets
To people who don't care enough to know
Why I'm so scared
I'll just sit in silence
Waves the only sounds
A sailboat divide the clouds that cover this whole town
So if it really makes no difference
I'll just see you around
And if it doesn't matter
I'll stay here til the sun goes down
I'm standing in your front yard
My hands aren't in the air
And I don't say a word you know exactly why I'm here
A twenty six ounce promise

The bottle still lays there
So bury me on Brookfield and then I won't be scared

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Silverstein's song Brookfield describe a nostalgic and melancholic feeling of revisiting a place from the past. The song seems to be about the aftermath of a failed relationship, where the singer is filled with a mix of regret, pain, and longing. The lines, "A twenty six ounce promise / The bottle still lays there" suggest that alcohol has been a coping mechanism for the singer. The mention of Brookfield as a destination that "never took anyone else here" indicates that it was a special place for the singer and their ex-partner.

The lyrics also touch upon the feeling of being misunderstood and not being able to communicate one's emotions clearly. The lines, "I think you telling secrets / To people who don't care enough to know / Why I'm so scared" express the singer's frustration with their ex-partner's inability to understand their fears and insecurities. The repetition of the phrase "if it really makes no difference" followed by two different possibilities - "I'll just see you around / And if it doesn't matter / I'll stay here til the sun goes down" - highlights the ambivalence and confusion the singer feels about their feelings towards their ex-partner.

Overall, the song Brookfield is an emotional reflection on the ups and downs of a relationship, the pain of loss, and the difficulty of moving on. The lyrics are evocative and poignant, capturing the complex feelings and thoughts that come with heartbreak.

Flare Roller

Shipwreck is my favorite album so far. The whole album was a journey filled with so many swirling tones of emotion. Slowly discovering the fictional story behind it, connecting the dots, putting the pieces together, the tears, the goosebumps, and the head banging. One of my all time favorite albums.

CB-ROM

Probably the best minute and in half song I've ever listen in my life.

there's been changes in silversteins music for every album, most of them are just very mild. and in a lot of interviews regarding a new album, the bandmembers tell about how they changed up the writing process or recording process for the so manieth time as well. silverstein is the one band that shows you can grow (up) as a band without commercializing/standardizing your music.
