When Will I See You Again

How I'm supposed to fill my time
How do I ignore the days as they drag by?
The sun is shining
But everything is black and white
When you're not with me
Suddenly I'm colour blind
What do I do
What do I do
Until I see you again?
Help me
Cos I'm about to lose my mind
Show me how
To cope without you by my side
It should be a crime
Every time you leave me behind
A little part of me dies
Every time we say goodbye (goodbye)
What do I do
Until I see you again?
What do I do
Until I see you again?
(Until I see you again)
(Until I see you again)
The lyrics of Simon's song "When Will I See You Again" express the deep longing and emotional turmoil experienced when separated from a loved one. The singer expresses a sense of emptiness and confusion, questioning how to pass the time and navigate the days without the presence of their significant other. The contrast between the sun shining and everything feeling black and white without their partner highlights the profound impact their absence has on the singer's perception of the world. The imagery of being 'colour blind' when their loved one is not around conveys a sense of desolation and loss, as if the vibrancy and joy has been stripped away from their life.
The plea for help and fear of losing their mind underscores the intense emotional strain of being apart from their loved one. The singer desperately seeks guidance on how to endure the separation and manage the overwhelming feelings of loneliness and longing. The idea of coping without their partner by their side is described as a daunting and almost criminal task, emphasizing the depth of their emotional attachment and dependence on their significant other for stability and comfort. The repeated questioning of what to do until they can be reunited reflects a sense of helplessness and vulnerability in the face of this separation.
The lyrics poignantly depict the profound emotional impact of each departure and goodbye, with every separation feeling like a small part of the singer is being lost or dying. The pain and sorrow of saying goodbye is palpable in the lyrics, underscoring the heaviness of the emotional burden carried by the singer each time they have to part ways. The repetition of the question "What do I do until I see you again?" reinforces the central theme of longing and uncertainty, as the singer grapples with the void left by their loved one's absence and the struggle to find solace in their temporary separation.
Overall, the lyrics of "When Will I See You Again" encapsulate the profound sense of yearning, heartache, and emotional devastation experienced when separated from a beloved partner. The singer's plea for help, their struggle to cope without their loved one, and the agony of each goodbye all contribute to a poignant and emotional portrayal of the impact of distance and longing on their mental and emotional well-being. The repetition of the central question throughout the song serves as a haunting refrain, echoing the singer's relentless search for solace and comfort until they can be reunited with the one they love.

@Joon Bugg To the contrary, m'lady. Straight to the point, you & I both know that word selection is one thing, but the tone behind those words is another. So, there is a both a rude tone-of-voice & a polite tone-of-voice by which anything can be spoken
You also know that if this were a phone call, our tone of voice in this conversation would speak volumes. However, since we can neither hear tone inflection nor see any facial or body language, the benefit of those essential parts of the Human Factor are removed
Concerning how celebrities had a greater degree of privacy back in the 70's, the 60's, & in decades before, you are right. And since you are right about that, whether I agree with it or not is irrelevant, because that's the truth
By the time I was old enough to remember his presence in any of the films I saw, Marlon Brando's career reached it's conclusion. Namely: Apocalypse Now, (1975) & Superman (1978). My life had only begun. And Grace Kelly? If she still had a presence in films of the 1970's or 80's, I would know by now. It looks like her career concluded by the end of the 60's. Well, the point is your evident familiarity with those two superstars means, respectfully now, that youre at least a generation older than me. Born anywhere between the 30's & the 50's. So you might forgive me for the fact that the Golden Age of Hollywood Technicolor is before my time...
It really depends on what you were looking at, at the time. But to me, the 70's film era was more defined by Richard Harris, Burt Lancaster, Charles Bronson, & Clint Eastwood (among others) & that entire Space Craze that seemed to begin with Star Wars, leading to Star Trek the Motion Picture (& it's sequels), Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Alien, etc etc
Good talking to you, June. Bye for now, from another 70's child 💜💜
