Drawing on all the knowledge gained, and an unparallel passion for music, he has now thrust himself firmly at the forefront, and is firmly forging his own career as an in-demand DJ, producer and remixer.
His style can only be described as Cutting edge, dark, driving, pulsating. In the past five years Simon has really clocked up the air miles, rocking some of the biggest parties on offer. Recently he has plied his trade in Rotterdam for crowds of up to 500,000; he has performed at the sun-drenched dance Mecca that is Ibiza year in, year out; and he has completed a huge tour of the far-east and an indoor festival in Russia where he gave 20,000 Muscovites a musical masterclass.
Last summer Patterson graced the world stage at Dance Valley, Sunrise, HI-FI, Planet Love, Mexico Stadium, plus various dates in Ibiza, Dubai, Malta, Netherlands, Canada, Germany and Cyprus and countless UK performances.
His production debut track in 2006, entitled ‘F-16’, was massive; ‘Strip Search’/’Panic Attack’ is the scheduled follow up.
Simon’s alter ego is one half of the massive Dogzilla with Richard Kayvan, most famous for recording the ever-popular ‘Without You’, which spawned the new rock trance movement. It went down as one of the precious few trance records in recent years that claimed anthem status. Countless remixes followed.

I'd love to hear a melody from Simon sometime in one of his faster productions. I know his tech drops are part of his appeal, but some of my favorites by him have some amazingly crafted melodies: Whatever It Takes, Us, Miss You, Latika, Brush Strokes, etc.

I personally got into the melodic stuff first (prog, tech and full-on) and while I respect that a lot of the earliest trance (say, early to mid 90s) wasn't all that melodic, I liked where it was going up until mid 2009 or so. Then came the advent of the superstar DJ and suddenly everybody had to keep up their relevance with the DJ mag crowd (of course that had been building up for years, but it really came to fruition at the turn of the decade.) Whatever, I think both the melodic and techier stuff has it's place in trance. I try to take the stuff I hear nowadays that actually sounds like trance at face value without being too purist about it.

It can be done in an interesting way. But personally I'm sick of that style regardless. You must remember that there was a time when trance was original, had much respect in the underground world, long before the likes of Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond began producing and decided to transform trance from a genre that went hand in hand with pure underground house and techno, to some mainstream melodic vocal stuff. Whether it was cheesy or not, it was pandering to the mainstream by ditching its experimental roots. For me, real trance today is what we would now refer to as melodic and deep techno. And the king is John 00 Fleming.

MysticalTechno You forget that there was a time where melodic trance was not cheesy and cliched, a time LONG before the likes of Kandi, Andy Blueman and all those banal assholes ruined it. For me, tech drops have to be done really spectacularly to be good (see Mark Sherry's remix of "Together")

MysticalTechno I REALLY LOVE that sad melody at the end (the one that is really short)

Nooo melody! Less sappy trance, more pure original trance bordering techno :D
