Thank you so much for this! Most "space ambient" around YouTube is just crappy, fast-paced electronic music with lots of woobs and dubstep drops, while this is exactly the kind of music I was looking for.

I'm currently working on directing a sci-fi short , guess I'll eventually buy the license to some tracks!

Thanks. My royalty-free music collections have an initial one-time purchase fee of £39.99.

After that you have a lifetime license to use any of the music from that album in unlimited videos without having to pay a repeat license (the "royalty") any time you use the music in a new film or video.

It's how most royalty-free content works but people often mistake the "free" part for no cost when there is almost always an initial purchase price for the royalty-free license.

"royalty free" yes, but you need to purchase it first. I mean, come on, it's NOT royalty free if you have to BUY the song first. Very misleading title for the video. I am finally finished editing my video, I see that have to buy that song -_-. I will give you credits in the description. I am not even making money with this video. It's a nice ambient song to be honest.

It is royalty free. Yes, you do need to purchase the album & license (as clearly stated in the description). This is common for the vast majority of all royalty free content.

It IS royalty free - that doesn't mean there's no cost. The majority of royalty free music, video, photos etc all have an upfront initial payment - after that there is no further licensing cost (or 'royalty') to pay each time you use it.

I assume you're talking about paying? If you actually read those exact Wikipedia descriptions you've linked to they all mention that there is generally a one time payment for royalty free use ("has to pay a small fixed fee", "based on one-time payment to the licensor.") The production music link on that page even has detailed examples of how the business model works. So yes, it is definitely royalty free.

Well I make music because that's what I love to do. I hate the legal side but it costs money to buy hardware, software, instruments, plugins, libraries, updates, website hosting etc. so to try and make enough money to fund more music I sell licenses to use it. I don't think anything is deceptive - I've put everything clearly in the description and on my website. Plus I assume a professional video editor already knows what royalty free licensing means (although I do explain it clearly just in case). I can't really do much more, but thanks for listening.

I've been licensing music for over 15 years and I can assure you that the term royalty free in nearly all cases refers to paying a one time fee which then waives subsequent license costs (the 'royalty'). Just Google a handful of royalty free commercial media sources and see what you come up with. Or ask anyone who deals with licensing media assets on a regular basis.

By the way, everything is copyright protected from the moment it's created. If someone allows you to use their product for no charge that's their decision but there is still a copyright. That's a completely different discussion.
