Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring
Sissel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Jesu, joy of man′s desiring
Holy wisdom, love most bright

Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring
Soar to uncreated light

Word of God, our flesh that fashioned
With the fire of life impassioned

Striving still to truth unknown
Soaring, dying round Thy throne

This version and the Celtic woman are both my favorite renditions of this beautiful masterpiece, thank you Johann Sebastian Bach for your wonderful legacy to the world! It’s truly magnificent! Also the lyrics of the song is most glorious! Praise the Lord most high!

From the moment she starts singing and until the last note has died down time stands still, and the angels, wherever they are, stop and listen.

Yes. She might even be their voice instructor :)

This is possibly Sissel's most stunning performance (and there are many, many to choose from). I just think the combination of crystal, sweet vocals, impeccable breath control, superb arrangement, lovely orchestration and back up choir, and the fact that Sissel looks like she is just floating with the performance just creates a magical musical moment!

Have to agree - never seen this one before, one of my fav melodies. Darn, we share home town, but I used to think she was overrated. I guess not. And more beautiful too.
