Kapwa mo'y inaabuso, kapwa Pilipino
Kahirapan ang dulot mo
Ika'y kuto sa ulo ko
Humihigop ng dugo
Naparang lamok
Naparang lamok

The lyrics of Skabeche's song "Lamok" shed light on some of the social issues and problems that are prevalent in the Philippines today. The song opens with a description of a person who looks like a penny (mukhang piso) and has a dark heart (itim na budhi). The singer expresses their confusion and frustration as they wonder whether this person will ever change. The theme of change continues throughout the song as different groups of people are mentioned - from the educated who take advantage of others to the cunning business people who exploit the system for their own gain.
The core message of the song is that poverty is the root of many of the problems in the Philippines. The singer describes poverty as a pesky mosquito (lamok) that sucks the blood of the people, leaving them weak and vulnerable. The repetition of the phrase "Kahirapan ang dulot mo" ("you bring poverty") reinforces this message and serves to highlight the impact that poverty has on people's lives. The final verses of the song describe the singer's frustration with the situation and their feelings of helplessness, as they liken the person they are talking about to a louse (kuto) that has infested their head and is causing them to go bald.
Overall, "Lamok" provides a powerful commentary on some of the social and economic issues currently affecting the Philippines. The repetition of key phrases throughout the song, such as "Kahirapan ang dulot mo," serves to reinforce the message and ensure that it resonates strongly with the listener.
