Amélia
Skott Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Stay, stay) Amelia
(Stay, stay) Amelia
I swear if you reach that door
You're not welcome anymore
(Stay, stay) Amelia

Plates and bottles on the floor
I can't fix them on my own
Gee, we had it figured out
Limitless in love
We even broke into a warehouse
So no one would find out
Your father chased us down
We even packed that suitcase
Are you really walking out?

(Stay, stay) Amelia, if you reach that door
(Stay, stay) Amelia
I swear if you reach that door
You're not welcome anymore

Gee, we had it figured out
Limitless in love
We even broke into a warehouse
So no one would find out
Your father chased us down
We even packed that suitcase
Are you really walking out?

Amelia (stay, stay)
If you reach that door (stay, stay)
I swear if you reach that door

Party, we're gonna throw a party
If you decide to stay here
We're gonna throw a party
If you decide to stay

Gee we had it figured out
Limitless in love
We even broke into a warehouse
So no one would find out
Your father chased us down

We even packed that suitcase
Are you really walking out?

Overall Meaning

"Amelia" by Skott is a heartfelt ballad about a couple who had a seemingly perfect relationship that suddenly crumbled. The song follows the plea of the singer to his lover not to leave him, expressing a desperate desire for her to stay. The song begins with the singer repeating the name "Amelia," urging her not to leave through the lyrics, "I swear if you reach that door/You're not welcome anymore." This line shows that the singer is willing to do anything to keep Amelia from leaving him, as he knows that if she walks out that door, it would be over for them.

Throughout the song, Skott uses imagery to show the aftermath of the relationship, with broken plates and bottles on the floor, indicating the tumultuous emotions they both felt in the relationship’s final moments. The memories of their once blissful relationship also haunt him, as exemplified through the lyrics, "Gee, we had it figured out/Limitless in love." The singer regrets his mistakes and acknowledges the toxic behavior, "We even broke into a warehouse/So no one would find out," admitting that they were willing to go to extreme lengths to protect their relationship, which has now crumbled.

In the end, Skott offers Amelia an ultimatum through the upbeat and catchy chorus, "Party, we're gonna throw a party/If you decide to stay here/We're gonna throw a party/If you decide to stay." The singer promises a happy ending if Amelia does not leave, as they will eventually be able to fix their relationship and celebrate like they used to, with unabashed love and joy.

@ShaedStealer

So many people complaining about the "stay" vocals, but that's what intrigued me most about this song. The dissonance of the high and low "stay" juxtaposed with her beautiful voice creates a mysterious and exotic feeling. I think every piece of this song is beautiful.

@bigmac4.998

Even so, the "stay" doesn't really fit well with the general vibe of the song for my, and apparently many peoples' tastes.

@EM-zt4ul

Yeah I like it. It kind of scares me a little but it completes the song.

@taissadamasceno7649

Brandon Findlay it's true... i agree completely
