Burning Our Morals Away
Slaves Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So enjoy the shade
'Cause your sparks will fade
Oh me, I'm doing just fine
With the weight of the world on my shoulders
They said it was over, they said I grew colder, they said it was over
'Cause we are, we are the real ones
Watch us pour our hearts into every note
While they fall to the side
('Cause we are)
Fight fire with fire
Only lessons learned
Rise above the ashes
From the bridges burned
Let's sing in a city of ruins
Walk on through the trail of dirt
Call it justice or call it
Call it justice or call it revenge
So love, have we suffered enough?
So now we kill what we love
Tore myself apart
Before, before anyone else could
'Cause we are, we are the real ones
Who will refuse to run and hide
Watch us pour our hearts into every note
While they fall to the side
'Cause we are
Fight fire with fire
Only lessons learned
Rise above the ashes
From the bridges burned
Fighting fire with fire
Only lessons learned
Rise above the ashes
From the bridges burned
Tore myself apart
Before anyone else could
Tore ourselves apart
To find out who we are
'Cause we are, we are the real ones
Who will refuse to run and hide
Watch us pour our hearts into every note
While they fall to the side
'Cause we are
Fight fire with fire
Only lessons learned
Rise above the ashes
From the bridges burned
The lyrics to Slaves's song "Burning Our Morals Away" address themes of resilience, perseverance, and the struggle to remain true to oneself in the face of adversity. The opening lines acknowledge the pressure of being in the spotlight and the toll it can take on individuals. However, the singer asserts their own strength and "fine" state of being despite the weight they carry. The chorus serves as an anthem for those who refuse to cower or back down in the face of opposition. The singer proclaims that "we are, we are the real ones" who fight fire with fire and rise above the destruction left in the wake of those who have betrayed or wronged them.
