While some subsequent Sleep Station albums have been recorded with a full band (After the War, The Pride of Chester James), others have essentially been David Debiak solo albums (Von Cosel, The Blood of Our Our Fathers), featuring very little, if any, instrumentation other than David Debiak's own guitar playing.
Sleep Station is known for its concept albums; to date, all Sleep Station releases have called "rock operas" by some critics. David Debiak himself, however, has stated that he is not trying to tell a story in his songs, stating in a MySpace bulletin "Every record I have done as Sleep Station has been thematic in its nature, not trying to tell a story but just create a mood". Unconventional love affairs and war are common lyrical themes in Sleep Station's music.
Following the release of the album After the War in 2004, Sleep Station went on hiatus, with David Debiak starting a side project, New London Fire, with his brother Jason Debiak.
In 2008, Sleep Station returned from hiatus with the album The Pride of Chester James, an album about a fictional circus drifter who shows up in a small town.

Sleep Station Lyrics

I see the sun
Maybe the smoke has went away with the guns
I see the sun
Everything looks strange, nothing will ever be the same again and
I see the sun
I feel it touch my face, I pray that there is change and someday, we will walk away, Caroline.
The lyrics of Sleep Station's song "Caroline London 1940" paint a vivid picture of the horrors of war and the resilience of love. The opening lines are a poignant example of the desperation felt in times of conflict—"I will hide this way while bombs drop everyday just close my eyes and wait to die." The singer is resigned to their fate but holds tight to their love for Caroline, affirming that even though they may lose their lives, their souls belong to each other.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the devastation they've witnessed—"I miss everyone so much I haven't done, intentions fall like the rain." Despite this, they continue to cling to their love, holding Caroline close as they weather the storm. The line "everything looks strange, nothing will ever be the same again" highlights the lasting effects of war, even after the fighting has ceased.
Yet, amidst the destruction and chaos, there is a glimmer of hope—the sun. The line "I see the sun" is a powerful moment in the song, representing a turning point from darkness to light. The singer prays for change and dreams of a future where they can walk away from the destruction with Caroline by their side.
Overall, "Caroline London 1940" is a hauntingly beautiful depiction of war and love. It showcases the power of love to survive even the darkest of times and serves as a reminder of the human cost of conflict.
