While touring in Ireland, the discovered the audience would cheer back "Who the Fuck is Alice?". As it turns out , this was a ritual at a Café in Nijmegen (the Netherlands) called "Gompie". The group decided to "cover" this version with comedian Roy Chubby Brown having the honor of yelling "Alice, Who the Fuck is Alice?" during the chorus. Thus, Smokie holds the record as the first group to have a top ten song with the word "fuck" in it.

Last Train
Smokie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For trains that never show
I could hear where you were coming from
And how was I to know
It's so cold and lonely here
And it's miles from where we were
so I'm waiting for the last train
Coming in
To the place I love so dear
To my baby's arms
To my baby's smile
A million miles from here
So I'm flicking through the pages
Of a womans magazine
Reading for the stories
Sure that's where I've been
They say he was your love
The new guy always wins
So I'm waiting for the last train
Coming in
Take me home on the last train..
Won't you take me take me home
On the last train
Take me home on the last train
It's so cold and lonely here
And it's miles from where we were
Now I'm waiting for the last train
Coming in
Take me home on the last train
Take me home on the last train...
Won't you take me home
(Take me home)
Just take me home
(Take me home)
The lyrics of Smokie's song "Last Train" depict a person who is standing at the station waiting for a train that never arrives. The station is cold and lonely, and it's miles away from the place where the person wants to be. The person reads a women's magazine, where there is a story about the new guy who always seems to win. The person is waiting for the last train to take them home to the place they love, to their baby's arms, and a million miles away from where they are now. They ask for someone to take them home, on the last train.
The song seems to be about a person who is trying to cope with the pain of lost love. The station could symbolize the person's feeling of being stuck in a place of loneliness without the one they love. The women's magazine could represent the person's search for explanations for the breakup or the reasons why the person they love chose someone else.
The repetition of "Take me home on the last train" towards the end of the song shows the person's desperation to go back to the place they love and escape the loneliness that they feel. The song's lyrics provide a poignant portrayal of a person's heartbreak and the longing to be reunited with their loved one.
