Tallulah
Sonata Arctica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Remember when we used to look how sun set far away,
And how you said "this is never over",
I believed your every word and I quess you did too,
But now you're saying "hey, let's think this over".

You take my hand and pull me next to you, so close to you,
I have a feeling you don't have the words,
I found one for you, kiss your cheak, say bye, and walk away
Don't look back cause I am crying.

I remember little things, you hardly ever do,
Tell me why, I don't know why it's over,
I remember shooting stars, the walk we took that night,
I hope your wish came true, mine betrayed me.

You let my hand go and you fake a smile for me,
I have a feeling you don't know what to do,
I look deep in your eyes, hesitate a while,
Why are you crying.

Tallulah,
It's easier to live alone than fear the time it's over,
Whoa, Tallulah,
Find the words and talk to me, oh,
Tallulah,
This could be heaven.

I see you walking hand in hand with long-haired drummer of the band,
In love with her or so it seems, he's dancing with my beauty queen,
Don't even dare to say you hi, still swallowing the goodbye,
But I know the feelings still alive, still alive.

I lost my patience once, so do you punish me now,
I'll always love you, no matter what you do,
I'll win you back for me if you give me a chance,
But there is one thing you must understand.

Tallulah,
It's easier to live alone than fear the time it's over,
Whoa, Tallulah,
Find the words and talk to me, oh,
Tallulah,
This could be

Tallulah,
It's easier to live alone than fear the time it's over, over,
Tallulah,
Find the words and talk to me, oh,

Tallulah,
This could be

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Sonata Arctica's "Tallulah" tell the story of a breakup and the aftermath of a relationship. The opening lines reminisce about the past, specifically watching the sunset together and the promise that their love was never going to end. However, now the singer's partner wants to reevaluate the relationship, causing the singer distress. They try to comfort their partner by taking their hand and drawing them close, but it seems that their partner doesn't have the words to say what they want. Eventually, the partner lets go of their hand and fakes a smile. The singer is left wondering why the relationship ended and remembering all the little things they shared. The song shifts when the singer sees their former partner with someone else, the drummer of a band they were both a part of. Despite feeling hurt, they still admit their love for their former partner and express the desire to win them back.

@Nimpa3

Just heard this song for the first time tonight. I am a 26 year male and I was brought to absolute tears (sobbing) about 1 minute into this song - when I stopped what I was doing (studying) and listened to the lyrics. I got a rush of chills, as I look down at my arms goosebumps plucking up the hair on my arm. Listening to it a third time tonight - I feel tears start to well up in my eyes - I still get chills. I can't describe how touching this song is to me. I can't think of a song that has resonated with with me to this level.

Its so incredibly sad and touching. I have never had a serious girlfriend but for whatever reason this song speaks to me and I do not know why.

People have said that "music speaks to to their soul" and I never really understood that until now. Until tonight.

@veridico84

It's a great song. I remember listening to it as a 19 year old guy after a breakup in 2003, it was quite something then, touched deep.

@Kradfire45

It really touches when you've watched the lyrics play out. For this reason there will be a "Tallulah" character in my writing.

@p0ck3tp3ar

This song always makes me tear up, you're not alone.

@FurbyParade226

This is truly why I think Power Metal is the greatest sub-genre & truly one of the most diverse in music today.  When they wanna be sad, they're sad.  When they wanna be happy, they're happy.  When they wanna be 180+bpm in your fucking face blinding tempos, they are.  Ranging from themes of love, death, playfulness, modesty.. seriously,  *HOW AND WHY IS THIS MUSIC STILL SO OVERLOOKED IN TODAY'S WORLD*!!!

@cheesemista101

Nicholas Storey Couldn't agree more, it really is a shame that it's overlooked

@HeckyLady

+DantheHobnob actually, i think that is more a blessing then a curse. I belive it appeal to a serten crowd, and thats part of the magic. Id hate to see it go mainstream, as i identify whit it

@cheesemista101

I must say, there is nothing wrong with this becoming mainstream if it ever will. It's still the same awesome music that we all hear and to be honest, I'd rather this be mainstream than what kind of music is considered mainstream at this point in time. But yes, I can agree that it is nice that a small audience can get together and enjoy good music :)

@TheHeavyModd

+DantheHobnob The way I see it, music is not all about music, sadly.

In today's society, "mainstream music" is popular because of the social depth it has: people want to be socially active, they want to communicate in many way, they want to have a link to others. Mix this with the sick sexual and social role models we have today, and we get Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber and all of those other horrid "artists".

I myself have found that almost every kind of music is appealing if I have a positive first impression on it, or if it fits my "musical ideals" (the way I want to experience music, the kind of music with what I identify myself). For example, I listen a lot of game music, J-pop, J-rock and classical music, mostly because that's part of who I am, while in truth, I could honestly listen to all kinds of different genres and bands (like this one band here).

+Nicholas Storey Hail to You!!
